Stop all this musician talk and discuss the fucking Luciano mix!

it's really good. i like it alot.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't understand what he's singing.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

LUCIANO!

X-PAT (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

where does one find this remix? Is this on the don't save us... single?

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that it would be great to be Luciano. What a decadent-yet-relaxed Swiss sort of a life he must lead!

X-PAT (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i asked on the ysi thread but could anyone post that mix or the montag one?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

so handsome and a perlon t-shirt!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(oh yeah!)

X-PAT (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

teen angst (luciano remix) ysi

willem (willem), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

:(

can some kind soul explain why the bloody hell i can't download anything from yousendit? the !!! track (y'know, the one from the other thread) ... i got 29% through and it stuck. i now can't seem to connect at all. this: 1% and it's stuck.

i mean, it works as a web download. surely there aren't firewall issues. are there?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(sorry: confusing wording. it's *meant to* work as a web download.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know, seems unlikely though. i could send you the track, can your inbox handle 16.5MB?

willem (willem), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

that's very kind of you, willem, but don't go to any trouble. i should really buy it anyway ;)

i'm just kinda puzzled as to why i'm getting nowhere with what should be a very simple download. is anyone else having problems? is this just a bad night in yousendit world?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

riiiight. i think it's working now. a logout seems to have helped. i think it's a firefox-related problem of some kind, but i've no idea what. ach well.

thanks again, willem. i assume you have the "don't save me" remixes that i mentioned upthread?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus christ. 67% and it just decided to stop for no reason. tits!

safari now seems to be doing a much more stable job than firefox. perhaps it's time i re-migrated :)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i have the cd-single, yes. bliss.

(x-post: it works for me on safari)

willem (willem), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

yup: it's worked perfectly via safari. weird, eh?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry to hijack this thread with technical stuff (although, as M83 are my absolute favourite band in the whole world ever right now, i'm glad i'm keeping it active) ... anyway, i asked my big techy mate about the YSI/firefox thing and he gave me an astonishingly detailed explanation involving wonderful metaphors about trunk roads and trucks. but the upshot is: mozilla derivatives with their multiple-connection ways confuse the fuck out of YSI's servers, and firefox doesn't.

coo ur, the things you learn. i'm going back to wget from now on, anyway.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 5 May 2005 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Works fine with Windows Firefox...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 May 2005 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

[angry noise]

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 5 May 2005 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

mozilla derivatives with their multiple-connection ways

But... Firefox is the prime Mozilla derivative! Maybe you mean Mosaic. I was having some weird connection issues to YSI when you were, I think that they were having problems.

Anyway, this Luciano mix is crazy long! I think it's another one of those where I feel a little shiver every time I hear some element of the original song come in, just because it's so gradual.

mike h. (mike h.), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the other problem: after having spent so long fucking about to get the thing, i didn't have time to listen to it or put it on the iPod! but i know it's waiting there for me tonight, hurrah.

which reminds me. i ordered the first M83 album from gooom the other week and it hasn't turned up yet. hmm.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ok funsters, decent-quality isolated MP3s of that KCRW show here. if anyone can identify the third song, i'd be much obliged.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 8 May 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

(nb: i haven't listened to it all the way through myself, so if he IDs the songs during the interview bit then, er, sorry for being a mook.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 8 May 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank ya sir, am listening now. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 May 2005 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

This mix is great!

Also: use Camino, dudes. Mac-specific Firefox. Word.

giboyeux (skowly), Sunday, 8 May 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

this is lovely - i like them more now i have seen them. the singer is charming (also cute).

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 8 May 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The third track is "Unrecorded", from the "Dead Cities ..." album.

Thanks for the mp3's, grimly!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 8 May 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the band name he name-check's between judas priest (pryst!) and slowdive?

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 8 May 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

it seems i've missed out by only focussing on the remixes (but theres still time!)

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 8 May 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

xx-post: is it? wow! i've not listened to "dead cities" in yonks ... i had a quick whizz through the start of each track to see if i could work out what that was, but hey. thanks, though, MiR: much appreciated.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 8 May 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmmmm. actually, listening to "unrecorded" again, i'm not convinced it is! i mean, it's had a serious-ass makeover :)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 8 May 2005 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang on, I listened again, and you're right ... it's actually "Night" from their debut. Sorry about that!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 8 May 2005 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, that explains it! of course, if gooom had sent me my copy of the album yet, i'd know that already. grr.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 8 May 2005 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

this if friggin' awesome!

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Sunday, 8 May 2005 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

is

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Sunday, 8 May 2005 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the band name he name-check's between judas priest (pryst!) and slowdive?

I think it was Sonic Youth. I was actually a little annoyed that he didn't namecheck the obvious...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 9 May 2005 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry, Spencer, he'll give praise to your band soon enough.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 May 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, thanks so much for putting these tracks up!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 9 May 2005 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, seconded! It was good to hear them. I still will admit "Run Into Flowers" works better as concept than as successful song but I enjoy the new album so much that I'm glad they've finally fully connected with me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 May 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Such a fantastic band it hurts. And he's just a wee scraggly chap, who sways like the gopher at the end of Caddyshack and uses the thumbs up without irony (even at the end of the great video for Don't Save Us From The Flames). A ghost is screaming your nameindeed.

Come on, ye YSI. Thanks, Grimly.

stet (stet), Monday, 9 May 2005 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, you are still way off the mark on "Run Into Flowers."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 9 May 2005 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Vive la difference!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 May 2005 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

how can run into flowers work better as a concept? i don't understand, cuz i always see music inevitably as a process.

natedey (ndeyoung), Monday, 9 May 2005 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

and am i the only one who finds the luciano mix of teen angst too prude? the original just delivers too much and the remix just plays with delivering too much.

natedey (ndeyoung), Monday, 9 May 2005 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

no, natedey, i absolutely agree. i was slightly disappointed by it. that said: i've only listened to it the once.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 9 May 2005 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

this is great stuff, thanks for the rip grimlord :-)

willem (willem), Monday, 9 May 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

how can run into flowers work better as a concept?

In brief (and risking the wrath of the injured Spencer) -- I sense what they were thinking of when they came up with the song and enjoy that, but the end results are kinda flat. (See also most everything by the Killers.)
