i think when you say "san francisco", what you mean to say is "los angeles"

firstworldman (firstworldman), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

What's a "Los Angeles"?

the black hand, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
Revive. Tell me about 1992.

Masterdik, Monday, 1 August 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

I just want to say that I finally played the Psyche Out mix CD yesterday and it was outstanding.

JoB (JoB), Monday, 1 August 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Optimo are DJing in Brighton in a few weeks time, I can't wait!

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 1 August 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Here's a question for anyone with the How to Kill the DJ pt 2 mix...just bought it today, and about halfway through the "one more tune" crowd chant at the end, there's a loud *POP*. Apologies for the trivial question, but I'm wondering if I've got a bum CD or if it's there in the mix- it's really quite startling.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 10 September 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

I think there were some problematic CDs in the first run, possibly mentioned on this thread at some point.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 September 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

It is mentioned somewhere up there. Second press is ok so return it and get that.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Saturday, 10 September 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Thanks. Where would I return it to, though? Tigersushi and Kill the DJ are both in Paris, and returning it to Insound might be a gamble on getting the same pressing again. Is there a US distributor I could get in touch with?

God, I feel silly about this. But those POPs (found another one, in the "Dexter" segment) will haunt me to my dying day otherwise. I'm totally compulsive about this kind of thing...

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 10 September 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

i've never heard of there being one in the 'dexter' segment before - odd. i'm not sure who the us distributor is but i know forced exposure did some distro on it. david day from forced exposure posts here so you could ask him. otherwise, i could burn you a cdr from the master (if i can find it).

stirmonster (stirmonster), Saturday, 10 September 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Looks like you were unable to OMIT POP ahahaha *dies of shame*

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:50 (twenty years ago)

*cymbal crash*

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 11 September 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

i think it's so funny that insound now carries the kill the dj comp. a few years back i recommended that they might start stocking tigersushi, as it seemed to be just the sort of "dance music" their indie buyers would lap up like warm milk -- and i got a really snide response from someone there that they just didn't have time to listen to all the "electronic music" out there. guess they found time.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 11 September 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

I really want to go tonight and see the Fire Engines, but I am very poor. Convince me, Glasgow.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 11 September 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

it will be your last chance ever to see them and i promise they will be as entertaining as it is possible to be in 23 minutes. if you are very skint, i can put you on a half price list.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 11 September 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Arse, I forgot about this tonight. I'm not sure I am up to it. If I am not there, try to have fun without me.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 11 September 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

I put "psyche out" on in the car yesterday and it got shouted off cos it "doin [my mum's] nut in"

: )

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 11 September 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

not that stirmonster is going to see this in time, but thanks for the offer - I'm not going to make it now. Report back, someone.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 11 September 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

i shed a tear.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 12 September 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

haha, this really was great even if, like me (!!!), you had never even heard The Fire Engines before! tight as fuck and so fresh sounding.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 12 September 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
i would like to go to optimo too one day.

when optimo visited montreal unfortunately i had a work-related dj gig the same night :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

stir,

the optimo site explicitly says not to email you about this.. rather than bother Tigersushi, can I ask here?

Any insight on any remaining record shops still stocking Kill the DJ Part 2 on 3x12"? or was it a limited friends pressing and i should just give up?

many thx

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:30 (twenty years ago)

it was a pressing of one copy! they did one test pressing (which i have) but they messed it up and missed off the arthur russell track. i waited and waited for them to do another test pressing but that was the last i ever heard about it. sadly i am almost certain it will never see the light of day now. i keep meaning to change the info on the website. in fact, i'll go and do that now.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:42 (twenty years ago)

One day I will make it up there for Optimo! I'm not saying it wasn't good when I saw you in Brighton, but I'd like the full expereience.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 12 January 2006 08:35 (twenty years ago)

God, I envy you people that live in the part of the world that gets Optimo with any regularity (translation: PLEASE TO BE PLAYING IN LOS ANGELES).

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 12 January 2006 10:00 (twenty years ago)

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 12 January 2006 12:12 (twenty years ago)

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 12 January 2006 12:14 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if I have the stamina : (

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 12 January 2006 12:20 (twenty years ago)

think of all the ILM people who wish they were in glasgow. if you're not going to do it for them at least do it to make them jealous.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 12 January 2006 12:22 (twenty years ago)

now you're talking !

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 12 January 2006 12:25 (twenty years ago)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 12 January 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

How come - is it going to promotions heaven?

we'll be ten years old then (if we last that long!). seems a good age to bow out on.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 12 January 2006 13:52 (twenty years ago)

coo ur gosh etc. but aye, always quit while you're ahead/leave them wanting more/etc.

i assume you've already booked a fat lady to sing at the very final night?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

it was a pressing of one copy!

thanks for the info, now i can stop looking. quite a rare edition then.. har har. i am quite enamored by the psyche out picture disc, it is a treat.

titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:08 (twenty years ago)

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:09 (twenty years ago)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Wow. I need to make it back to Optimo within 97 weeks! Anyone who hasn't been: get thee to Glasgow now.

And have a (gigantic) falafel at the shop around the corner for me.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

well I probably won't make it to glasgow in the next 97 weeks but I'll definitely be at don hill's in nyc next month .... I went to the glass house gallery optimo in brooklyn last year and it was great.
