she raps the entire thing and tony sunshine sings - i only found out about an hour ago that it's a cover! i do not know the original. i did not know that patrick swayze sang.

(i like it)

lex pretend, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

I've heard it... it's hardly a Lumidee song. This guy named Tony Sunshine sings the whole thing basically.

As for Mya... I don't think she's boring at all! She had her fair share of great songs... Moodring is a good album. Honestly, I didn't like her new single at all at first, but it has really grown on me.

The Brainwasher, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

wow that deemi track is AMAZING!

lex pretend, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

I've had the R. Kelly track (T.I./T. Pain one) on repeat for over 45 minutes, and I'm still not sick of it. I'm such a sucker for a catchy piano riff, though.

Tape Store, Friday, 23 March 2007 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

wow that deemi track is AMAZING!

Yeah, isn't it?

Anyway, here's Amerie's second single:

Much better than "Take Control".

I don't really think it's any better or worse than "Take Control". Both are songs that I like, but can't really get excited over. Ethan's right about new R&B sounding like old Lords Of The Underground. At this point I kind of wish Amerie would go back to a more subdued All I Have style.

The Reverend, Saturday, 24 March 2007 05:23 (nineteen years ago)

that cover is wonderful.

i got really really excited about 'take control' ("I FIND HIM I FORGIVE HIM I FEED HIM") - i like this new one but not at that omg stage yet.

anyone want to tell me more about shareefa? heard a couple of songs today, 'i need a boss' and 'u told me', and they're both amazing!

lex pretend, Saturday, 24 March 2007 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

"I Need A Boss" is horribull! Not even a Luda spot could save that one.

The Reverend, Saturday, 24 March 2007 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

Lex, track down Shareefa's "Hey Babe", a duet with Bobby Valentino, it's a very pretty slow-jam with awesome horns.

It oddly reminds me of Ginuwine track circa '99 - maybe it's because the chorus sounds like something Ginuwine or Missy would have come up with at about that time.

You're out of your mind.

Anyway, Lex there's some talk about Shareefa at the top of the thread. I'd definitely recommend her album.

Me too - I've been switching between this and "Like A Boy" all day long. R. gets straight to the point: "Hey- I'm black, handsome, I sing........plus I'm rich"

tpp, Sunday, 25 March 2007 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone heard the Joss Stone album? I'm tempted to buy it, because I can't stop playing the song "Music" with Lauryn Hill... Lauryn's part is meh (more Unplugged-esque wacko ramblings), but otherwise it's awesome.

The Brainwasher, Monday, 26 March 2007 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

i would have sex with all this ameries

and what, Monday, 26 March 2007 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Remember the video for "Why Don't We Fall in Love"? Legs for days

deej, Monday, 26 March 2007 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, the Shareefa album's pretty strong if not particularly memorable. good 90's Mary J. vibe complete with a bunch of Darkchild/Chucky Thompson productions.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 26 March 2007 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

Remember the video for "Why Don't We Fall in Love"? Legs for days

Haha - when I was 16, I'd watch the vh1 soul channel all day, waiting for that video.

(Okay, I was a rather pathetic 16-y.o. I admit that.)

The Reverend, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

New Rihanna:

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 29 March 2007 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

OMG I totally have to buy the 12'' now.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 29 March 2007 22:49 (nineteen years ago)

totally obsessed! WHEN THE SUN SHINES WE'LL SHINE TOGETHER, TOLD U I'D BE HERE FOREVER...

not convinced rihanna really knows how umbrellas work though.

lex pretend, Friday, 30 March 2007 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

Okay I know you will all be hating on me for this but guess what: I really like the new Macy Gray album even though, troublingly, will.i.am is all over this thing like, well, like dread extensions all over will.i.am.

Dimension 5ive, Saturday, 31 March 2007 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Lil' Mama's "Lip Gloss" is amazing: nothing but hard-edged drum stomps and vocals.

Michael F Gill, Monday, 2 April 2007 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

the 'fire fire' beat!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 06:46 (nineteen years ago)

It's like "Grindin'" but more fun!

Tape Store, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 07:12 (nineteen years ago)

It's like "Grindin'" but less fun and more "fun"!

The Reverend, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

haha rev. otm

why must everything come back to grindin

deej, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, so this Rihanna track is pretty good. The way she says "umb-er-ella" cracks me up. Lex, yr. right about the power-ballad-ness of it.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

Beyond the obvious minimalistic connection, they ("Lip Gloss" and "Grindin'") both remind me of high school so much...Grindin' has that slamming locker sound, which I try to emulate every time I see a row of open lockers (like twice so far this year!), and also that confident, braggish air that so many teenage guys walk around with. And "Lip Gloss" is like an anthem for all high school girls and was written by a teenager.

Tape Store, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone know what's up with that Anthony Hamilton album that came out yesterday?

The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

it's another old one re-issued

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 23:21 (nineteen years ago)

so nothing on Macy Gray? she writes songs with Teedra Moses....

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know, I don't think I'll ever be able t get over her voice. I've heard two songs from Big and they did sound pretty okay... but that voice of hers, it's so irritating.

The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

it's another old one re-issued

Damn, how many old albums does he have. "Merovingian Records", huh?

Jordan, Thursday, 5 April 2007 00:12 (nineteen years ago)

Dear The Brainwasher:

Annoying? Perhaps. Unusual? Yes. Evocative? Oh yeah.

Dimension 5ive, Thursday, 5 April 2007 02:57 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
I'll give the album a try, Dimension. I've found myself humming "Finally Made Me Happy" a lot recently.

OH MY GOD @ the new Chrisette Michele single "Good Girl"

http://www.myspace.com/chrisettemichele

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 21 April 2007 05:04 (nineteen years ago)

The new Ne-Yo album is pretty good. Starts off sounding pretty much like his first one, not exciting at this point, but accomplished. About track 5 or so, it gets more interesting, "Addicted" cracks me up with its R. Kelly as Al Green-isms and awesome chorus. "Leaving Tonight" is a good duet w/ Jennifer Hudson. "Ain't Thinking About You" & "Sex With My Ex" ride these really weird, unpredictable drum programs, and are both pretty demented. After that, it gets all twee, which might not have been quite as noticeable if we hadn't jumped straight from "Sex With My Ex" to "Angel", and then it ends more or less as it began.

The Reverend, Thursday, 26 April 2007 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

the ne-yo's occasionally very listenable and pleasant n stuff, but seriously if u go and listen to the first album again u will know it is but a mirage and that to compare the two is really a massive insult! i'm very disappointed.

also oh dear god, 'sex with my ex'!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even speaking as a guy who's listened to the sa-ra album, that has got to be the worst prince impression ever ever. it's secretly my fave song tho tbh.

r|t|c, Thursday, 26 April 2007 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

that has got to be the worst prince impression ever ever. it's secretly my fave song tho tbh.

Haha, otm.

I've only listened to this once, so I'm not prepared to make any judgments versus the first album, though on one listen it didn't strike me as significantly better or worse. I wouldn't consider myself disappointed at all though, although my expectations weren't all that high.

The Reverend, Thursday, 26 April 2007 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

i recommend the first unreservedly, it's a classic! also not to be a total downer but there were about 10 songs from around then that never came out that pwned this album too. whenever it is i find the cd i made of them i'll come back and get into them maybe.

in other news i'm really feeling this guy alot

http://myspace.com/noelgourdin

he's kinda like jaheim if jaheim was good!

r|t|c, Thursday, 26 April 2007 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

oh al's a jaheim man isnt he? i didn't really mean it.

sometimes i wonder to myself, will lex like a new tiffany evans with ciara on a collipark beat??? probably not.

r|t|c, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

haha I did like the last Jaheim album, but not really enough to be insulted by that.
