Fall Into Darkness 2010 is the latest annual festival curated by Nanotear Booking and hosted at Portland, Oregon's finest mid-size club Berbati's Pan.

Past incarnations have boasted earth-shattering performances from Sunn0))), Wolves in the Throneroom, and YOB.

This latest edition features headlining performances from San Francisco battle-metal duo Black Cobra, Cascadian performance artists Fauna, technical US Black Metal excellence from New York’s Krallice, and the undeniable jams of instrumental San Diego trio Earthless.

Diversity of musical styles and lifestyles are celebrated at Fall Into Darkness and the staggering range of just what constitutes art and metal in 2010 will be on display in one masterful set after another.

anyone check out the new Stone Sour record? I liked "Bother" and "Inhale" when they came out; I actually bought the first record, but I'm not sure I ever listened to it all the way through. liked "Through Glass" when it came on the radio in 2006. still rep for all those three jams

I like the new single, and I bought the new record earlier tonight. after half listening to it all the way through once & after listening to a couple select tracks a few more times, I feel like I'm probably too old for this? still, it deserves more attention before I'll be able to really say how I feel about it

The first Stone Sour record had some great hard rock tracks on it. Never heard the second one.

Some pretty great acts on that Fall Into Darkness bill. Would love to see Deadsea myself; liked their last album a lot.

Yeah, listening to The Absence right now, and they definitely like Swedish death metal. But then, so do I, so I'm digging this.

Has anyone heard the new Dawnbringer album "Nucleus" yet? Heard one track from it and it sounds awesome, like all the things I love about this kind of music without the bits I hate. It's out in about a week I think on Profound Lore.

I have it, but haven't had time to listen to it yet. Playing the first track now and it is, indeed, sounding pretty awesome.

Picked up the Sword's new one. I am a sucker anytime anyone adds pre-Eliminator ZZ Top flourishes to their music. (See also: Meat Puppets, Huevos). This is some great shit.

i never felt much for the sword one way or the other. i like the new one on the first few listens, but i doubt it'll stay in rotation very long. i really enjoyed seeing them live a few years ago, though. they were a lot heavier than the records led me to expect.

For some reason I dug out Suma's self-titled debut from 2002 and it is blowing me away. Beefy riffs, stoner echoed vocals, long songs with enough variety to not bore to tears - what's not to love? Does anyone know if their record from this year, Ashes, is anywhere near as good? I remember being a little let down by Let The Churches Burn when it came out in 2007.

I,too, am still loving The Sword's latest. Between that and Quest For Fire's Lights From Paradise my retro-rocking gene is running wild.

I got to see Suma at Roadburn last year. So great. Haven't heard the new one.

In other news, Portland's best kept secret Rabbits just signed to Relapse. Very happy about that as they deserve international recognition. Killer high octane sludge band for fans of Karp and Torche.

listened to the autopsy demos collection on nuclear war now tonight. pretty enjoyable, especially the 1988 one. earlier demo vox have a thrash vibe that I wasn't expecting.

odds and sods live/rehearsal stuff is mostly useless, unfortunately.

amazing packaging but this one is for the mega fans.

just got the new kylesa, and wow. i'm only halfway through, but it's so much more dynamic than any of their previous albums, without giving up any heaviness.

@EZsnappin... I really loved the Suma album and played it constatnly when I was reviewing it but haven't been tempted back to it since.

Just hosted new SF thrash band Serpent Crown last night. WOW, that guy is the best metal drummer I've seen since Lombardo. Their lovely singer/guitarist Dara played some hot leads too. Can't vouch for their recordings (they only have a demo so far), but the live show was full of promise.

Q: anyone have a good starting point for Hammers of Misfortune? I saw a few of the reissues at my local store but having never heard them I thought I'd turn to you guys.

Cant go wrong with Fields/Church Of Broken Glass.

Fields/Church is good, but I also like The Locust Years a lot.

everything i've heard by hammers of misfortune—the two (three?) mentioned above and "the bastard"—are all good. i think i like "bastard" best.

i think i need a chart to keep all the members of hammers and slough feg (and ludicra) straight.

Everything by Hammers is top notch, but man those Scalzi albums are something special. Can't go wrong with any of those.

A little birdy told me that the Unholy Cadaver record (pre-Hammers) is being reissued on Shadow Kingdom...
