HMLPDCKMSP: "Are you sure you weren't dreaming about sex while you watched that Blue Man Group performance in Vegas, Killer Mike?"

EC, Friday, 7 March 2003 00:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

do you engaging in sex with men?

I'm pretty sure there's a best selling t-shirt in Tokyo with this slogan printed on it.

Killer Mike sounds 100 times better then he did on "The Whole World" which I think is b/c he sounds more like Big Boi.

EC, i'm pretty sure that the line you quote is big boi, not killer mike.

brains (cerybut), Friday, 7 March 2003 03:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

In that case, the conversation would be:

"Hey Big Boi, your musical partner often wears a woman's wig, along with some extremely flamboyant outfits. Should we draw any conclusions about your relationship?"

"None of that, but the female genitalia's where it's at, etc."

Just wanted to add that the single is indeed great, and I can't wait to get the record. Sounds like it'll be excellent.

So I got the record and there are some really amazing songs here. As Adam West mentioned above, "Akshon," which subtly samples "The Whole World," "A.D.I.D.A.S.," which has such a fun bounce and "All 4 U," sentimental without being sappy, are all great. I'm halfway through so far, but this disc sounds like a total keeper.

re: outkast/killer mike production - "earthtone iii".

I like the album quite a bit too, it seems to be coming from a similar place as the Majesticons album, though without the very obvious layer of make-believe on beauty party. Especially when he screams stuff like "fuck your hip-hop / this is rap and roll" while wearing a bambaata t-shirt. Also good to hear Andre 3000 expanding on the Neptunes production vibe (see "U Know I Luv U").

someone said this track was homophobix, or something.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 11 May 2003 15:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alex Needham said it in the NME.

I guess they're referring to:

None of that but the female genatalia's where it's at
I'm a man and I demand a WO-man for that act
Personal preference cause I use the law of nature as a reference
No I don't ever recall seein' a man turn up pregnant

thats pretty dumb, why would he say that? < /naive>

i'm sad this hasn't blown up. it's hard to be excited about hip-hop albums when you feel like the radio's playing the single because the record company said so. i hope joe buddens doesn't fizzle like this.

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 11 May 2003 21:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

I soured on this a little bit, but now I've come back to it in a big way. All the tracks get more and more nihilistic, until you really fear for the man's future, and then you realize he just doesn't care what happens to him. Hee hee, that's cool.

“I turned it into a shirt first because I’m a capitalist,” he told The Huffington Post. “And since I did not ― and will never ― take money to back a candidate, I decided I should and could make money using my name since it was used.”

“I also wanna be very public about any government official noticing me because this country has a grand history of killing the shit outta folks that don’t ‘get the message,’” he added.

i look forward to mike running for office in 2030
