I didn't mean to undersell it so badly, it really is pretty and unique. But by no means would it belong anywhere near a dancefloor.

The other element which I forgot about when I originally described it is that it has these very echo-y field recording style samples that almost sound like they were taped in a locker room or a warehouse or something.

It's all very spare. Even though it sounds nothing like it, it reminded me of that Pantha du Prince song with Panda Bear singing on it.

bruno pronsato's "the make up/the break up" was the best thing to happen to electronic music last year

Ugh when is it going to leak?? DFA took the album stream down a while back for some reason.

skip, Monday, 13 September 2010 02:03 (fifteen years ago)

the Shit Robot leaked many moons ago. there are only a couple good songs on it. the best on is the song Nancy sings on. someone please give her a solo LP on dfa. she deserves it.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 13 September 2010 03:22 (fifteen years ago)

I show it added to iTunes on July 20 so it must have leaked a day or so before then.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 13 September 2010 03:23 (fifteen years ago)

maybe it was a rip of the stream. it's not in the usual places so it's probably 160 kbps or something. I loved it while streaming at work but who knows.

skip, Monday, 13 September 2010 03:54 (fifteen years ago)

The version i have is 320. Agree on the need for a Nancy solo album. You could get an all-star cast of DFA producers on there.

Number None, Monday, 13 September 2010 12:18 (fifteen years ago)

Ended up disliking the SR album after a few plays. The tracks where he does the vocals are seriously, seriously dull.

Andy Cole (Dwight Yorke), Monday, 13 September 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

I think it's comfortably one of the best albums of the year. Simple Things especially is a beast. The only track I'm not fond of is "Losing my Patience" with Alexis Taylor. Outclasses the LCD album in my opinion.

Touch of Death, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

As I think about it more and more, the Peter Gordon 12 is growing closer to my favourite 12" released this year. Don't Don't is, at moment, just sublime, just immense.

EDB, Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:06 (fifteen years ago)

i'm liking this new shit robot quite a bit upon first listen, guess we'll see if it holds up after a few more but i already know and love "simple things" and "i got a feeling" so i suppose that's a good omen

jestaint natural (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 01:08 (fifteen years ago)

for all, in tents and porpoises (haitch), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 01:20 (fifteen years ago)

^ awesome, based on samples. i need to acquire the full version ASAP

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 01:38 (fifteen years ago)

i like the orig mix a lot more than the ame

jestaint natural (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 01:38 (fifteen years ago)

ha, seems odd but i already found a digital copy and i really dig the entire ame remix. comparing it to the original kinda doesn't make sense though, they aim for such different things. both are great

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

the ndf is great....and can totally imagine it on a dancefloor, just prob at 10am

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 7 November 2010 21:33 (fifteen years ago)

i'm digging it!

didn't realize how little overlap there was between 'geneva' and this dfa love of life orchestra full length

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Sunday, 7 November 2010 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

also, looks like the other track on that 12" is an english-language cover of this...

"still you" is a classic. been waiting a decade to have it on vinyl.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

is that the other side?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

yes. "beautiful dreamer' is definitely a bit more of an acquired taste.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

nearly wet myself when i realised the colette tracks were on the reissue. I was always of the opinion beautiful dreamer was the anthem, i imagine when i finally play it out on friday everyone will go bed

I like the Jam Factory Remix the best

also really like Take Em Up by Shit Robot w/ Nancy Whang, doubt I'll get the album but I'll grab that 12" I think

elizabeth pisstake club (electricsound), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 02:09 (fifteen years ago)

Still haven't bought the Peter Gordon, despite regular autoreminders. Need to rectify this.

seandalai, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

Don't Don't redux is one of the great music discoveries of the year for me. What a perfect song.

EDB, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

Anyone picked up the twentyten collection? I've not heard most of it, though I'm sure many of you lot have. It's pretty cheap though, and I feel flush.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 05:07 (fifteen years ago)

i think yacht are crap and haven't heard the PDS track but the rest is v worthy. surprised by how much i love the justine track

karajan camping (electricsound), Wednesday, 12 January 2011 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

I've kind of thought that about everything since Hold On initially. They're growers though.

Number None, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

crazy talk re I Will Come Back

think I read somewhere that the new HG! track was prod by Goldsworthy? winder if the whole album has been in the tank that long

basically just a 2/47 freak out (sic), Thursday, 13 January 2011 00:48 (fifteen years ago)

it's been done done for well over six months now, probably much longer for all i know

just saw that album out 5th april ..

karajan camping (electricsound), Thursday, 13 January 2011 00:52 (fifteen years ago)

TG's been gone from NY since 2009 IIRC? I s'pose he could have worked on it long-distance or on visits, but HG! are such intense gear-nerds that you'd think they'd be working more hands-on with a producer. idk, idle speculation anyway

basically just a 2/47 freak out (sic), Thursday, 13 January 2011 01:37 (fifteen years ago)

i will come back is still maybe my favourite song of the last five years

plax (ico), Thursday, 13 January 2011 01:51 (fifteen years ago)

karajan camping (electricsound), Thursday, 13 January 2011 01:52 (fifteen years ago)
