jaxon, Friday, 30 March 2007 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

not like we're famous or anything :-/

jaxon, Friday, 30 March 2007 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

jaxon, remember this? ...

crazy lady: "what are you up to?"
me: "just hanging out for a minute, then i'm gonna home and just relax."
crazy lady: "you could've just told me to leave."
me: "excuse me?"
crazy lady: "whatever. i'm out of here." ... gets pissed and leaves ...
me: ????????????

man, i hope she shows up.

Cameron Octigan, Friday, 30 March 2007 02:10 (nineteen years ago)

hey jaxon, what wife jams are you going to play?

Dominique, Friday, 30 March 2007 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

cameron, al was pretty sure that chick wanted her. she was scared.

i'm hoping to be able to play a bunch of disco/electro type shit, but she begged me to buy some current hip hop. i got the j.t. album, t.i. "what you know", 3-6 "poppin my collar", kelis "blindfold me", cam'ron "oh boy", ghostface "tush" and clipse "wamp wamp".

and now you don't need to come anymore.

jaxon, Friday, 30 March 2007 06:23 (nineteen years ago)

This is a good excuse to go back to Waziema (which I hardly ever do now that I don't live in the Western Addition.) What time are you guys going to be there?

SF early to bed peoples:

Come to the RX Gallery and see me spin @ 8PM tonight. It's free and if we don't get a minimum they are shutting us down! Yes!

About the Backlit Lounge:
Backlit Lounge is a free monthly DIY music showcase started by local electronic musician Onyx Ashanti. It's free and open to the public. You can sign up to play on their myspace page. You sign up, you setup, you play. Perfect, right?

About Catch & Release:
Tonight CATCH & RELEASE rises above (or, more accurately, move slightly diagonally to) the rising tide of eclectic DJs who play everything and anything. His message to the wanna-be DJ Harveys with bittorrent accounts: Let's simplify. Let's get back to basics. It's about rhythm and nothing else. CATCH & RELEASE brings you one genre, one tempo, one rhythm. Tonight CATCH & RELEASE plays a selection of songs from ONE ARTIST.

Want to find out who?

See you at the BACKLIT LOUNGE @ the RX Gallery on Thursday!

Lineup and set times:
6-6:45 - Astronout
7-7:45 - Dhyan
8-8:45 - Catch & Release
9-9:45 - Bryan Von Reuter: the mess
10-10:45 - Effect69
11-11:45 - Triptick

The Macallan 18 Year, Thursday, 12 April 2007 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

jaxon, no spoilerz :P

The Macallan 18 Year, Thursday, 12 April 2007 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

Black Strobe
May 2: Mezzanine

Boredoms (HOPEFULLY ... I'm really trying to get this one)
July: Mezzanine

Cameron Octigan, Thursday, 12 April 2007 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oooh Boredoms!!

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 12 April 2007 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

No!!! Hopefully somewhere where they have better sound!

Actually, they bring their own soundboard and soundguy so it may work out there.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 12 April 2007 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

i love you guys, but i have to say ... mezzanine sound ISNT great, but does ANY club here really have amazing sound? i'd have to say no. it's standard for a 1000 person venue. we're unfortunately not privy to european sound standards. :[

Cameron Octigan, Friday, 13 April 2007 03:36 (nineteen years ago)

hmm that's kinda true, I can't think of anywhere where its consistently fantastic. Every venue seems to have its weaknesses, tho some are worse than others (Civic Center is the fucking worst, for ex.)

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 13 April 2007 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

I've seen boredoms/vooredoms in about 4 (or 5?) different clubs in SF and they've always had good sound* so maybe this is just me overreacting to previous bummers at Mezzanine.

*worth repeating: they bring their own board and soundguy!

Steve Shasta, Friday, 13 April 2007 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

Bimbos always has great sound.

schwantz, Friday, 13 April 2007 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

dear SF, try to have a good show May 31-June 4, so far my options are Arcade Fire or Matt & Kim.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 13 April 2007 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

I've found Mighty to have pretty consistently good sound, too.

ken taylrr, Friday, 13 April 2007 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

Morbs which games are you going to when you are here? The Sunday and Monday ones work best for me.

Alex in SF, Friday, 13 April 2007 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

I'd definitely rate Bimbo's sound. The Mogwai set there was bowel rumbling.

The Macallan 18 Year, Friday, 13 April 2007 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

Oooh, I do enjoy a good bowel rumble.

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Friday, 13 April 2007 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone going to this tonight?

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Friday, 13 April 2007 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

i've never been to El 222 Ha club, but drive by it all the time. how is that place?

jaxon, Friday, 13 April 2007 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

I think I saw milton DJ there almost 2 years ago?

Steve Shasta, Friday, 13 April 2007 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

it was the night i met my ex!

Steve Shasta, Friday, 13 April 2007 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

haha

no one's goin to that, they're all comin to the Hemlock tonight! YEAH

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 13 April 2007 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

(Alex, I was thinking of Monday vs BOS and/or one of the MIN games except Sunday, which is reserved for the Eagle beer blast)

Is Drew Daniel still doing his 1st Sat. dance DJ thing?

Dr Morbius, Friday, 13 April 2007 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

Monday BOS sounds good to me.

Alex in SF, Friday, 13 April 2007 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'd take Drew over Acid Girls...

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Friday, 13 April 2007 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

Wait -- I don't know what I'm typing half the time. It's not really a choice between one or the other that you mooted, is it, Dr Morbius? Today is neither Saturday nor the first week of the month.

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Friday, 13 April 2007 23:49 (nineteen years ago)

haha

deep breaths, goethe

The Macallan 18 Year, Friday, 13 April 2007 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

jaxon, the 222 Club is good. it's generally the nights there that aren't my thing. but they seriously upgraded the sound system recently and they have good pizza to boot.

Cameron Octigan, Saturday, 14 April 2007 00:12 (nineteen years ago)

we went to 222 last night around midnight and said if there was a line or a cover we wouldn't go in. well there was both. i've never seen so many gipsters in my life. lots of all over print fape hoodies.

jaxon, Saturday, 14 April 2007 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

hey yo's -

i'm dj'ing on KUSF this afternoon from 5-6pm PST (90.3fm), it's a preview of my 'proto-dubstep' set that i'll be playing at Grime City this Friday night at Anu. I promise i won't play the same tracks at both (i'm saving lots of goodies for Friday). If you can't get the station, check kusf.org for the live feed and then futurebreaks.fm for the podcast after the fact. enjoy.

BATTAGS, Saturday, 14 April 2007 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

That doesn't sound like it was much fun, jaxon. I could have dealt with the cover, but the all over print hoodies sound insufferable.

SF crowds can be so hard to predict. I went to the Underground Resistance party a couple of weeks ago and people weren't only not dancing, they were sitting on the sides of the room falling asleep!

What sites do you guys use to find more underground events or late night/loft stylee events in SF,i.e Gun Club style. Seems like whenever i go visit peeps in La or Ny these type of events are a dime a dozen, while here in the city it seems more of a one-off,once a month kind of thing, but maybe im looking in the wrong places.I am familiar with the usual suspects:sfstation, flavorpill, weeklies, nitevibe, blasthaus but am wondering if there might be sites, message boards, groups that might be in more depth with this kind of stuff.

oscar, Sunday, 15 April 2007 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

Today is neither Saturday nor the first week of the month.

No, I'm in NYC, and won't be in SF til the first weekend of June. Hence the DJ Drew query.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

i've never seen so many gipsters in my life. lots of all over print fape hoodies.

"hoodies" is the only word in these sentences I understand. And if i were from the year 1900, I wouldn't understand that one either!

akm, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

gipster = gay hipster

all over print fape hoodies = huge fashion trend amongst. $300 hooded sweatshirts. japanese fashion designer Nigo started the company A Bathing Ape (aka BAPE). made popular by friends (?) Pharell and Clipse. has been bootlegged and turned into fake bathing apes (aka fapes).
