san te - deej & whiney is a 'special' 'relationship' - its best to just let it be

haw -- didnt he say 'on to the next one' by jay-z was the best rap song of 2009 ... whineys consistent at least― NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE GUCCI (deej), Tuesday, August 31, 2010 2:01 AM (7 hours ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

i did! i think me and deej listen for different stuff in rap music, but we're both voracious listeners so our taste def overlaps in some parts—Young Dro, Quik & Kurupt, E-40
― Gucci, ME (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 31 August 2010 13:06 (fifteen years ago)
for what it's worth i find 'on to the next one' about 1000x more exciting than 'gucci time'
― Jacques_Lamure, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 13:43 (fifteen years ago)
though most of that has to do with the video, i guess

gucci time is great and fun to dance to when walking home wasted
― to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 01:32 (fifteen years ago)
& yeah that swizz verse is criminal
especially how exciting the begginging of every gucci verse is coming off the energy of that chorus--crushing reality of the impending necessity of skipping to the next song
― to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 01:34 (fifteen years ago)
i feel sorta not-mad-at-it even tho the beat bothers me -- its not good but for some reason it sorta floats by as just 'ok' -- but im into hating on average bs lately so
― NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE GUCCI (deej), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 01:51 (fifteen years ago)
i like how this song is real up-beat, kinda urgent like. a lot of mz6 was mid-tempo and a big of a slog and i'm always wishing for these kinds of tracks
cut these lights on cut these fuckin lights on

i mean, i've well established that i don't like chord-change rap as much as rap without chord changes. The whole post-Chronic aesthetic has def made rap songs lusher and more like actual songs. That super repetitive, record-skipping sound that Swizzy does these days on "Gucci Time" and "On To The Next One" is more like the future-fucked version of the old school stuff I grew up on

― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:41 (fifteen years ago)
man i just saw the 'she geeked' video for the first time and there was some very bizarre censorship
the "free" in free weezy was bleeped, as was the "creatures" in "no sneakers i'm wearing creatures"
the whole chorus, on the other hand, was untouched. i guess none of this is surprising at this point tho
― Jacques_Lamure, Friday, 3 September 2010 23:16 (fifteen years ago)
censors being mindless idiots

it was actually one of my fave tracks on there, don't know if it was due to familiarity or what
but there's a stretch of like 5 tracks or so in the middle that's kind of lame, worst of which is this song with Nicki Minaj called "Haterade" produced by Pharrel >_<, also that song with Ray-J is on the album too
― suckin deez in belize (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 5 September 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)
of course
― max skim (k3vin k.), Sunday, 5 September 2010 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

'makin love to the money' is still boring to mewhat do u like about it??
― the embrace of waka flocka is v pertinent (deej), Sunday, 5 September 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)
i dunno I just like the hook ("I fuck her everydaaaaaaayyyyyyy"), and I think gucci manages to keep the "money is my bitch" metaphor interesting even tho it's totally overused
