i'm so deeply sad and ashamed that I walked after Lauryn at Rock the Bells; I need to make an appointment with my podiatrist cuz my foot is fucked up and SummerStage has completely exhausted my body and anything more than five hours standing knocks me out.
i mean i am apparently fucking old now and I'm really unhappy about not being able to tough that out. Would've been easier if I had gone later than 2, but wanted to see Yela and, due to +1 getting there really late, I didn't even get to do that.
Rakim, KRS and Black Moon were great. Lauryn was like a rock show.
There was a coca cola igloo along with a DJ RAPSTAR tent where you could play the awesome new xbox game and a Camel tent where you could get coupons for cigarettes.

she sounded... interesting? She's not doing hip hop right now, that's for sure. Full band and she was the first (maybe only) artist to not go off turntables. She did a version of lost ones that was really a rock rendition and later stepped off stage for awhile while the band covered a Bob Marley track (Turn Your Lights Down Low? I was a little sozzled by then and barely remember) which she reemerged to sing as gospel.
Guy in the crowd in front of me says to his friend "Can you imagine if she comes back out with Bob Marley? Ten thousand motherfuckers would keel over and DIE"
Loads of pomp and circumstances and mic feedback. The crowd was understandably going berzerk. From way back where I was at, there was not much crazy; just the same level of hullaballoo and buildup that you'd expect live from, say, erykah.
KRS was running around in the crowd with a camera behind him.
As i was leaving a metal van showed up from the other side of the island and they had everybody waiting for the ferry jump on the curb and out pops swizz and alicia and jay z and (apparently? couldn't see her though people were screaming her name) beyonce through the side entrance of the venue.
Some knucklehead guy screams out JAY Z SUCKS and NAS KICKED YOUR ASS MAN which led to all manner of verbal scuffles in the crowd and just reminded me why i was leaving. Seriously, it's like screaming at Bloomberg for chrissakes. Or The Rock.

The Rock The Bells lineup was so good that i stood nearly 11 1/2 hours at the main stage with no food, water or bathroom breaks. fml
