Been rocking the upcoming Dusted Angel (ex-B'Last) album today. Wow, what a great band!

Nate Carson, Friday, 27 August 2010 09:53 (fifteen years ago)

man, this christian mistress album rules. great riffs, excellent solos, nice live band sound, and I LOVE the vocals.

original bgm, Friday, 27 August 2010 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I didn't like it much on first listen, but it really hooked me the second time I played it. The vocalist reminds me of the singer from Znöwhite. (That's a good thing.)

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:25 (fifteen years ago)

That Znowhite comparison is a really good one. The one comparison I kept thinknig of was Kim McAuliffe from Girlschool. And yeah, this album has steadily turned into one of my 2010 faves. I gave it a very positive 7 in this month's Decibel, but should have given it an 8.

A. Begrand, Friday, 27 August 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

October Decibel just arrived!! :-D

Tue 10/05 - off

lol'd at this -- what a packed schedule!

markers, Friday, 27 August 2010 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

Kim McAuliffe from Girlschool

I really have to listen to girlschool one day. just watched, lol, zombie nightmare, and while it was too horrible to even work as a mst3k episode, the soundtrack ruled and the girlschool tracks sounded awesome.

original bgm, Friday, 27 August 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

listening to the christian mistress again. love the last track.

original bgm, Friday, 27 August 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

If you think Zombie Nightmare was a disaster, you need to check out Rock 'n Roll Nightmare -- the last 10 minutes literally exploded my mind.

I'm excited to check out your cover story, Adrien. Readers who aren't colorblind may also catch a giant three-quarter page pink column in the reviews section written by a certain other contributor to this thread...

sounds like Dream Theater (J3ff T.), Friday, 27 August 2010 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

just looked up rock n roll nightmare on wikipedia. lol at the entire "plot" section:

It is about a rock band who end up in the middle of a confrontation between Heaven and Hell.[2]

thrones any good live? records never did much for me.

original bgm, Friday, 27 August 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

"That Lustre album did nothing for me, sadly."

do you enjoy ambient music or minimalism? cuz that might make a difference. it is more those than it is metal, probably. and, yet, it is metal.

scott seward, Friday, 27 August 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

You don't want spoilers. You want to watch the entire mediocre slasher movie just for those last 10 minutes. It is transcendent.

sounds like Dream Theater (J3ff T.), Friday, 27 August 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

haha jeez, thanks a lot j3ff! this forced me to queue it on netflix:

Also includes a documentary featurette about Thor titled "Revelations of a Rock 'n' Roll Warrior."

original bgm, Friday, 27 August 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

if it does not live up to the hype, you'll be hearing from me.

original bgm, Friday, 27 August 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

you and thor

this sounds good to me. will check it out. i think i looked for it on grooveshark and didn't find the album you posted.

The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Friday, 27 August 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)

"listening to the christian mistress again. love the last track."

That's my favorite track too.

@ Alan - Thrones is way better live than on record IMO. Especially his latest set which is pretty eclectic--covering Melvins-ish rock, Sunn0)))-like drones, and high concept/brute force vocoder-metal.

Nate Carson, Friday, 27 August 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

cool! I definitely want to hit up this tour.

Is it me, or has it been a really slow year for the girly metal?

A. Begrand, Friday, 27 August 2010 21:28 (fifteen years ago)

The year started out pretty fallow, but it's picked up a lot recently -- besides the stuff in my column, there's new music from Tristania, and the new Tarja solo album is actually quite excellent -- far better than the last Nightwish.

sounds like Dream Theater (J3ff T.), Friday, 27 August 2010 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

Infernaeon are a just-okay death metal band. But their new album includes a cover of "Creeping Death" with vocals by Oderus Urungus, and that's an idea so brilliant it's just put them into Album of the Year contention.

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Friday, 27 August 2010 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

It's a fun cover, I'll give it that.

A. Begrand, Friday, 27 August 2010 22:23 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I like plenty of ambient music and minimalism. Lustre is a kind of thing I like, which was why I was sad about not liking it!

Excited to hear those Tristania and Tarja albums.

"Teeth and Claws", the first track on that BXI EP, is sounding like another shoo-in for my 2010 song list.

glenn mcdonald, Saturday, 28 August 2010 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

definitely want to check out the Lustre & Tarja records

markers, Saturday, 28 August 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

The forthcoming Kamelot album is very impressive, their best in ages. Very classy, disciplined stuff, doesn't fly off the hamdle like too much power metal does, and the songs have a lot more staying power than I was expecting.

A. Begrand, Sunday, 29 August 2010 09:50 (fifteen years ago)

This Wolveserpent is strongly in my top 5 this year along with Ludicra, Cathedral, Enslaved, and whatever else I'm forgetting.

Nate Carson, Monday, 30 August 2010 00:32 (fifteen years ago)

^ Interesting band, them. I'll keep an eye out for the album.

The new Slough Feg album is as good as you'd expect. Tough to decide whether it's better than Ape Uprising, which I loved, but there are no duds on the new one, that's for sure.

A. Begrand, Monday, 30 August 2010 08:18 (fifteen years ago)

There's a big article on Eyehategod in the second issue of Burning Ambulance, which is available here, now. End of commercial.

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Monday, 30 August 2010 15:56 (fifteen years ago)

A couple of the new Slough Feg tracks have been posted at Stereogum. Listening as I post and they sound pretty great.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 30 August 2010 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

Kylesa - Spiral Shadow, Oct 26. Can't wait! I wonder if it will feature more Baizley artwork?

I hope not, his stuff has been done to death. It doesn't even suit the Kvelertak album.

Here it is. It was done by Santos rather than Baizley this time.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 30 August 2010 22:05 (fifteen years ago)

What a great album it is, too. Listening to it with headphones, it's sonically light years beyond what Static Tensions did. Apparently with the creative packaging that Season of Mist puts out these days, the deluxe edition of is going to look pretty incredible.

A. Begrand, Monday, 30 August 2010 22:35 (fifteen years ago)

they should have put that logo on the back cover. otherwise, it looks cool.

scott seward, Monday, 30 August 2010 22:37 (fifteen years ago)

finally made it to Newbury Comics to buy the Sword record . . . that'll be nice to dig into later

markers, Monday, 30 August 2010 23:54 (fifteen years ago)

dunno if I've already said this, btw, but I need to go to this show:

TORCHE [...] 10/23 Cambridge, MA @ Middle East w/ High On Fire, Kylesa

markers, Monday, 30 August 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

so killer

markers, Monday, 30 August 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

i'm not a metal fan normally, but i'm digging this new christian mistress disc.

reminds me of the more melodic metal stuff i grew up listening to.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 31 August 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)

i should add i love some drone-metal (is that the right term?), e.g., earth.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 31 August 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)

Daniel, have you heard Torche? I have a feeling there's a chance you might like this:

good article, btw -- I knew nothing about them & really haven't listened to them at this point in my life, but I still found it to be a really solid read

markers, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 01:33 (fifteen years ago)

hm. torche is a miami-based band? that would endear them to me.

if we're talking about the same act, emusic has four albums of theirs. where's the best place to start?

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 31 August 2010 01:36 (fifteen years ago)

I've only heard Meanderthal, which seems to be their huge critical success

torche? no way.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 01:43 (fifteen years ago)

I still think the S/t torche is best. but its all great.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 31 August 2010 01:43 (fifteen years ago)

i say this solely based on the playful video costumes.
