no Avalanches DJing, no Modular bands in the USA:

an email from Modular:
"It's with much sadness that we have to let you know that the tour formerly known as the Modular World Domination Tour [r.i.p.] will not be happening this month. Many apologies to all who had planned to come out and see us in LA, New York and London, but due to unforseen circumstances we've had to pull the entire thing.
We're bummed about it, the bands are bummed about it, and it's quite possible that many of you are too.
We do, however, hope to have something similar in the pipeline for either late this year or early next.
When things come to fruitition, be sure we'll let you know."

it's cute.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I dreamt that I read an interview with them about the new album. They were going for a sort of early twentieth century theme, I remember a masked ball on an ocean liner from America to Europe. They also said there was going to be a silent movie slapstick suite. When I awoke I was pretty disappointed that it was a dream – the slapstick thing would be great.

manuel (manuel), Saturday, 24 December 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

I read a couple of months back that they had recorded a new album but scrapped it.

No idea how true that is, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:02 (twenty years ago)

i mean i guess it's time to just completely give up hope, huh? i can't imagine those guys made enough from being the avalanches to spend 5 years making an album, they've probably moved on in their lives by now...

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:04 (twenty years ago)

im gonna email this thread to them when i get home

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Dan (Probably For The Best) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:08 (twenty years ago)

I honestly can't imagine a follow-up touching the first one; perhaps its best if one never arrives.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:16 (twenty years ago)

haha i was just listening today and wondering whatever happened to them.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:21 (twenty years ago)

mark are you actually in touch with them?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:23 (twenty years ago)

last week there was an interview w/ them in the street press over here in sydney because they're playing a show next weekend. i think they said that they were finally going to start knuckling down and recording their new album (this sounds believable right?).

t_g, Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

Every generation has its Loveless.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 17:00 (twenty years ago)

from their theavalanches.com site which is still regularly updated:

"M A R C H > U P D A T E
NEW ALBUM -
exploration into sampled inner space continues, and is sounding damn exciting from all reports. the band would like to thank everyone for their patience and ongoing support. "sorry its not done sooner but theres no point in putting out an insane half finished mess" is the general feeling in the camp. recording is proceeding much quicker than with the first album believe it or not - its just that no one was waiting on that one.

AVALANCHES IN ROCK SHOCK -
the guys have also been busy re - editing most of bon jovis seminal 'slippery when wet' album (excluding wanted dead or alive and without love which are shit) and will be airing these once in a lifetime versions during their melb and sydney laneway dj sets - so get down there for a once only 80's rock extravaganza."

excluding wanted dead or alive and without love which are shit

Very wise people.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 17:09 (twenty years ago)

i got an avalanches 12" for free the other week.

the unbearable lightness of peeing (orion), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 23:45 (twenty years ago)

I only remember hearing Living On A Prayer at the end of the set, though there was a bit of other 80s rocktacularity mixed into the set, like fuckin' Springsteen.

Word is that they turned in a complete album of dark and introspective noodling, were told "no-one wants to hear this" and have gone back to write a new record full of party jams (though they reckon they'll sample the unreleased one for it).

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 03:58 (twenty years ago)

pisces (piscesx), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

Common knowledge, long ago.

I.M. From Hollywood (i_m_from_hollywood), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

James De La Cruz and Gordon also left years ago (and that middle-aged guy in the safari suit, if you count him).

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

well, gosh.

slackety yax (H2-H4), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 04:22 (nineteen years ago)

also this bro of mine at work got asked to be part of the formative avalanches lineup but he was losing interest in playing with turntables around that stage and politely declined the offer. for real!

slackety yax (H2-H4), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 04:26 (nineteen years ago)

this mix 'teazer' is basically a fun party mix

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 04:28 (nineteen years ago)

WHEN I MET YOU
'When I Met You' is a butchered version of the Avalanches GIMIX mixtape. Some people invented a cover for it and are selling it through HMV, posing as the new Avalanches album. Its not!

what the...? through HMV ??? huh? a butchered GIMIX??
