there are things I like about pt. 2: there's a lot of respect to be gained by repping for the hopeless--the pornstars, thugs, and prescription pill addicts--but the fact that she's also willing to identify (at least somewhat) with the gold-digger in "Turn Me Away" and the two-timing girlfriend in "You Loving Me"--I don't really hear a lot of condemnation in either of those tracks--there's something kind of special about that...

haha you may not hear the condemnation but it's there, when i asked her about "turn me away" she was pretty clear on that. i guess that's why she sings it in that mocking girlish voice

Fuck Jill Scott. She's the smiling, fat black lady that sings about love and non threatening things. She's exactly the same bullshit kind of black artist the white american music honchos want you to listen to. Thats why she's embraced by the industry. Its called 'The Mammy Syndrome' and its exactly what Miles hated about Satchmo. Erykah is strong, funky and has an actually message within her lyrics which is why you'll never see 'Bag Lady' on mtv in the states.

Annie (Don't Wear No Panties) is apparently no longer part of New Amerykah Part 3, but instead a song by a supergroup called Edith Funker, consisting of ?uestlove, Erykah, Wendy & Lisa and some other folk. Recorded version is pretty neat.
