Daft ruled Lollapalooza, as if there was any doubt. I think I also saw Bangalter afterwards at a party, but can't be completely sure.

that's awesome that you got to see it from outside the fence, deej. we showed up right at the end of satellite party and made it to probably 25 people back from the front of the stage. it was pretty freakin crowded by the end of the set, as i guess more people tried to push into that area. it was great being so close though, even if you could only really bob your head at that point. also big ups to todd for the rides after the show.

Keyspan Park is totally unsheltered, right?
Trying to decide whether to bring my ungainly umbrella tonight, given the forecast...

I would like to further add to the (very unanimous - for a reason) opinion that Daft Punk is a live experience (I was at the Toronto show) that one rarely is able to find. It was truly an experience, and very much a spectacle rather than a concert, and that's just alright by me. And yes, heh, I was able to see the real Thomas Bangalter too.
― mehlt, Sunday, 12 August 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)
i hadn't noticed that there are mp3s from the bercy concert all over the place - not as good a recording as those from last year, but pretty good all the same.

I want to know if people frequenting this thread know that Tony Wilson has died and who he was. Thanx
― Bimble, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)
I have an original pressing of the New Order "Ceremony" 7", does that count?
― Steve Shasta, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:12 (eighteen years ago)
wtf Bimble. I want to know if your comment has a point, because outside of some sort of sociological experiment in thread-shitting I'm at a loss here.

I had a dream last night that Daft Punk played a free show in the Union Square subway station last night. It ruled. Unfortunately all they played was "Love Train" and it was only a dream.
― jonathan - stl, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)
I guess I feel asleep with that eHarmony commercial on.
― jonathan - stl, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)
I loved how it started quite understated with Robot Rock, just white lights nothing fancy. I was kind of disappointed already and then bam bam bam bam it just kept getting better and better with new effects. Truly awesome.

Bimble, do you know who merv griffin is you shallow callous pathetic mote?

Coney show was pretty much the highlight of my year…
I had a job in the '90s where I could pretty much go to any show in NYC I wanted to for free, and I ended up, as it was the Chems/Prodigy/Fatboy "dance music is taking over" era, going to a lot of those kind of shows. So, apart from the fact that Discovery is one of my favorite rekkids evah, Thursday night reminded me of how much I missed dance to music that I really like at really loud volumes…
and many of the people there, I suspect, were very much on board for the "dance music is taking over" era, or maybe they were aging ravers… a lot of the energy was similar to any kind of nostalgia-based, good ole days kind of rock show…

― MRZBW, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)
From that pfork article: "The Billboard article also let us in on a little secret: those dudes in Kanye's "Stronger" video aren't, as previously reported, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, but, rather, the actors from Electroma. Not quite "two bums in helmets," but still, tricky."
Maybe they're at home or in the audience during "their" shows too.
― van smack, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:00 (eighteen years ago)
I had been wondering about that myself. Why tour when you don't have to?
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)
that would be rad. some residents shit.
― chaki, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:06 (eighteen years ago)
Well, The FADER interview says there will be a DVD and there were some serious cameras going at the LA show.
― Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:10 (eighteen years ago)
"Why tour when you don't have to?"
Assuming it was them two, it's possible that they, like many if not most musicians, find it gratifiying to perform their music in front of thousands of people that have been/are gagging for it…
― Veronica Moser, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 11:50 (eighteen years ago)
Judging from the amount of gear that's actually inside the pyramid, I think TB and GMdHC are pretty much required to be in those suits to work it. I mean, there seems to be a considerable amount of live mixing happening in there.
― Jon Lewis, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah it said in the Fader that the other 2 dudes appear at things that Bangalter and Homem Christo want Daft Punk to be at, but aren't able to for some reason. I assume this wouldn't include DP concerts.
― mizzell, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)
but it did include the Fader photoshoot.
August issue of Mixmag has a photo of the gear inside the pyramid btw, you can easily g00gle it.

If there's a DVD I'd really like it to be a single static camera with a head on view of the whole set start to finish.
― I DIED, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)
^^^y'know what, I agree with that.
Part of me wished i was in the center bleacher at COney instead of on the field.
― Jon Lewis, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)
they were certainly on tour even if they don't go on stage; they were seen out of costume at some local clubs around the time of lollapalooza
― deej, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)
The bad thing about being in the stands at Coney was the big empty space between us and the people on the field. Kind of killed some of the energy. But the views were amazing and people were really into it and dancing and stuff.
― mizzell, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)
I gotta get the hang of this occupying 2 different positions at the same time thing. Would've been awesome at Boadrum too.
Pythagoras to thread.
― Jon Lewis, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)
I know people who are pretty well connected who say "it's not them in the suits", etc etc. I think those people are WRONG. For one thing it's probably much easier to just have it be Thomas and Guy in the suits.
