I watched all 17 minutes of that trailer. Fascinating, such an alien subculture to me. I find it a bit repulsive but also kind of enviable. And christ does that Western look bad.

"A college professor took two days out of her fucking life to specifically attack us," says Violent J. "Oh yeah, she had it all figured out."

One of the ICP road crew locates the video on his iPhone, and it is indeed withering: "The Miracles video is not only dumb, but enthusiastically dumb, endorsing a ferocious breed of ignorance that can only be described as militant. The entire song is practically a tribute to not knowing things."

"Fuck you, man," says Violent J. "Shut the fuck up."

"Did you anticipate this kind of reaction?" I ask them.

"No," sighs Violent J. "I figured most people would say, 'Wow, I didn't know Insane Clown Posse could be deep like that.' But instead it's, 'ICP said a giraffe is a miracle. Ha ha ha! What a bunch of idiots.'" He pauses, then adds defiantly, "A giraffe is a fucking miracle. It has a dinosaur-like neck. It's yellow. Yeah, technically an elephant is not a miracle. Technically. They've been here for hundreds of years…"

"Thousands," murmurs Shaggy.

"Have you ever stood next to an elephant, my friend?" asks Violent J. "A fucking elephant is a miracle. If people can't see a fucking miracle in a fucking elephant, then life must suck for them, because an elephant is a fucking miracle. So is a giraffe."

VJ: Look at the "Miracles" thing. We don't think that was funny. That was us trying. That was us doing our best.

S2D: It's so funny. I said this to a couple of different people. To me is funny because if, say, Bob Dylan would have came up with that song, people probably would have been, "Oh, shit, man! That's the bomb!" You know what I'm sayin'. But because we came up with it, they're, like, "What assholes." [Bob Dylan's much-admired "Every Grain of Sand" is in fact very close in subject to ICP's "Miracles."]

(I Just) Died In Your Asshat Tonight, Friday, 1 April 2011 04:18 (fifteen years ago)

that article is an amazing series of sentences
here's just a few:

In 1998, Joe suffered a series of panic attacks that went undiagnosed for a while. First he thought he was dying, and then his brother suggested he was being attacked by demons. He eventually was diagnosed and started taking medication, but it was making him very fat (Joe has the naturally intimidating figure of a wrestler or bouncer), so he settled for therapeutic weed and long, meditative walks in the Michigan forest.

Every time I see ICP I think "TCP/IP".

Daddy I Want a Pony (u s steel), Thursday, 23 June 2011 09:05 (fourteen years ago)

these guys are great! i'm not a big fan or anything but they're a bit more clever/self-aware than a lot of people give them credit for

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 13:51 (fourteen years ago)

yes, and all their fans are actually super smart and they know latin and greek and they're all doctors and shit

StanM, Thursday, 23 June 2011 13:55 (fourteen years ago)

I love ICP - seriously. They are so cute, so comic book. I find professional wrestling entertaining too. I keep waiting for these horrible juggalos to materialize, I have yet to meet one. I have at least one doctor in my family.

There are lots of people named Dennis in this world (u s steel), Thursday, 23 June 2011 13:59 (fourteen years ago)

most of their fans are criminals but they're nice people

I lived across the street from some juggalos, not the facepaint kind, but they had tons of ICP shit everywhere, their house was a mess but they invited me in a lot after bar close just to hang out even though I had like nothing in common with them. Apparently they're convicted felons now because they got drunk and tried to steal a motorcycle off the back of a truck or something. Nice kids

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

most of their fans are criminals but they're nice people

any evidence for this statement? other than the fact that you knew 1/1000000 of their audience? are they also bad tippers?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 23 June 2011 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

yeah just let me check my sources http://data-facts.info

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

or do you tend to believe that they're all "doctors and shit". they cant both be true!?

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think either are true but calling a whole group of people criminals is a bit worse than going too far the other way.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 23 June 2011 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

the point is that i'm down with the clown

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

and i'm really just responding to the notion that i may think they are like hidden geniuses or something that exist on a super smart plane above the rest of us, obviously that's not true but I think ICP in general is a good thing

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

"Back in '82, ahem, 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a piece that's been left out of the spotlight ever since. The title of the piece is 'Leck Mich Im Arsch' or literally translated to English as 'Lick me in the arse'. Understandably this piece has figuratively been swept under the rug. So who better to give this piece it's due respect than the wildly successful, much misunderstood, and divisive Southwest Detroit rappers Insane Clown Posse?

"With fellow Southwest Detroit-born Jack White at the production helm and musical backing by Nashville's very own Jeff the Brotherhood, this 2011 version of 'Leck Mich Im Arsch' marries Mozart's melody (and lyrics sung in operatic German) with ICP's poignant lyrical addition in English and Jeff the B’s monster-riffs, letting the whole thing tie together in the most beautiful of ways."
