It was ripped from youtube.
The single is officially released in September. Have no idea why they waited so long between debuting the video and putting up the mp3 for purchase...other than to make people REALLY WANT to legit mp3. In which case, their plot worked.

I posted this in the August WDYLL thread on ile, but I may as well put it here too. I don't dance. Ever. In public or in private. Except I decided to do it a couple weeks ago, inspired by "One".

the single has just come out (in america as well) and the full-length version is lovely
― teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 August 2010 03:04 (fifteen years ago)
i'm talking about "one" btw not "obsession" (obv)
― teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 August 2010 03:05 (fifteen years ago)
They pushed it forward, thankfully.
Since I've listened to the video edit about a zillion times, the album version seems oddly too long. Still cool to have, though.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 August 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)
Listening now to Obsession in good quality through headphones and there's enough interesting stuff in the production to distract from the fact it's a pretty shitty single.
When is Ryan Tedder going to be hauled in and tried for crimes against humanity?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 09:03 (fifteen years ago)
"He had this song called obsession that he originally pitched to a whole bunch of other people at first, but people put it down, it didn't seem right...It was pitched to like Rihanna, Adam Lambert, like all these huge people. Whatever, another man’s trash is another person’s treasure."“I had to compromise with it. I mean, love the song and it’s very poppy and stuff, but you know, I think I just wanted to try something a little different at first, but, you know, I have to do what I have to do to get out. I mean, I don’t, like, hate the song — well, some parts of it I don’t really like.”
lol

haha
I like how it's just one of the songs tacked onto the end of the new NOW! compilation. I hope it goes nowhere and no one ends up associating it with her and that it doesn't make the cut for the album's tracklist.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)
the sad thing is that even as an 'album only' track on the now compilation, it is still easily outselling "one" (not quite sure why these compilations still sell this much)
lmao at the quote though
wish "one" had done a little better in the uk btw

lol I just left a reply on her Facebook page to her post about "Obsession" being the song of the day on some site or something, but it was deleted for some reason. To paraphrase, "I love everything you do, but I kind of hope 'Obsession' flops for no other reason than it might make people stop paying Ryan Tedder money to do things. Anything."
Guys, that song is really SO BAD.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 23 September 2010 20:50 (fifteen years ago)
The video for Obsession is up. In it, Sky is a crazy Michael Madsen fan.
http://www.mtvu.com/video/?vid=577965
The chasm of quality between the video/song One and the video/song Obsession is inconceivably vast.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 30 September 2010 15:01 (fifteen years ago)
cool object of obsession/concept but what exactly are they doing with her? what is she supposed to be? A mash-up of Robyn and Katy Perry music stylings?
― fan of puppetry (Spinspin Sugah), Thursday, 30 September 2010 16:27 (fifteen years ago)
...but it was deleted for some reason.
lol, no kidding!
― daavid, Thursday, 30 September 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)
the video is a little strange but i think the kiddies who are somewhat spaced out but still think they're a little too cool for school will "identify with her" and whatnot in a lavigne-esque way

album sampler is gone already, shux :\
― teledyldonix, Friday, 22 October 2010 03:59 (fifteen years ago)
It was just a collection of all the junk already circulating online. There's no way her cover of Stand Back is getting on the album I would think.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 October 2010 04:03 (fifteen years ago)
Ooh, "Elevator" is great!
Why the label thinks "Obsession" is better than either this or "One" is a complete mystery.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 October 2010 04:04 (fifteen years ago)
Apparently it won't even be on the album!
― daavid, Friday, 22 October 2010 04:46 (fifteen years ago)
Why am I not surprised?
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 October 2010 04:55 (fifteen years ago)
haha. i wonder if "obsession" will even do well. on one hand i would like her to be relatively non-obscure so that "one" has an actual chance of being promoted on the radio. on the other, though... i just don't want to hear "obsession" on the radio at all ever. i think it goes for adds soon, will be interested to see how often it will be played + how much it will sell.
― teledyldonix, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:36 (fifteen years ago)
just saw this
Okay.My album is no longer coming out on 1-11-11...unfortunately.It was done, but things/people constantly change within ALL record labels & in life (DUH!). I am now recording even more material for the record because I feel like I've grown (musically) since when I was 15-16 years old. All of the songs will eventually come out because they are all important to me. I'm trying to push for an EP to come out in February too. It's been extremely frustrating, but you know "these kinda things happen for a reason".Thank you for the support and I'm glad I can CLARIFY what's going on...Keep your eyes peeled for some big things happening this winter...STAY TUNED!<3
PS .I am still on EMI
P.P.S. Shutup forum ********* (I'd curse but my 12 year old cousin is on this page) I haven't even started yet.
P.P.P.S I love you.
i guess it is safe to say "obsession" has tanked? i wonder what they are trying to do with her now
― teledyldonix, Saturday, 18 December 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)
Surely it has. Did "One" do well in the UK/Europe?
― Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 18 December 2010 17:19 (fifteen years ago)
i looked her up on one of those chart data compilation sites. it lists her only chart entry anywhere as "one" debuting and peaking at 64 in the uk. :\
― teledyldonix, Saturday, 18 December 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
That's about 63 spots too low.

That Frankmuzik one is really a case of the producer casting a shadow over the song.
"American Dream" is actually pretty decent, but I can actually hear Brit's version being better.
― Dr. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 6 January 2011 02:06 (fifteen years ago)
wow. looks like even more have been leaking by the minute since i posted.
even more interesting are some of the notes attached to the songs (when you click on them):
"I did this song when I was like sixteen. The stuff I sent to Christian.Before.i GotSigned. This is all old stuff before.I started working with Dallas."
"I DONT WANT THE FULL ONE OUT I WAS LIKE.15."
whoever is posting these wants people to think he/she is sky ferreira. either that or that person IS sky ferreira.
― teledyldonix, Thursday, 6 January 2011 02:25 (fifteen years ago)
...and it's gone.
― Dr. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 6 January 2011 08:53 (fifteen years ago)
has there been any new news about her album?
― markers, Friday, 28 January 2011 07:14 (fifteen years ago)
Ferreira will release an EP titled As If! on March 8, 2011 in the US.[12] According to Ferreira's official Facebook page, it will feature producers and co-writers Bloodshy & Avant, Greg Kurstin, Nicole Morier, Klas Åhlund, and Colin Munroe. [13] This EP is intended to be a completely different entity than her now-delayed debut, which was pushed back until further notice, as Ferreira reported in late 2010. [14]

amazon has clips of the ep tracks, btw

LOL I never knew Skye herself big-upped yr video, JF hahaha!
― gnarly gnarlingtons in my life (Trayce), Thursday, 3 March 2011 01:39 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, that was one of my highlights of 2010.
As for the ep, first two tracks "eh" last three tracks "YES!"
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 March 2011 03:21 (fifteen years ago)
the ep just came out.
"sex rules" is "sex rules" and "traces" sounds like something from a pastiche of a disney princess movie, but the last 3 are pretty impressive imo. "108" has nice, typically klas ahlundian melodies.
