ima have to listen to Gucci with headphones cuz he's so hard to decipher on some of these mixes. usually just takes one good listen for the lyrics to stick.

surfboard do you really think who DJs these mixes has any effect on the quality or song selection or anything? i felt like Cold War was the ultimate debunking of that, it was just his way of doing a favor to or aligning himself with 3 DJs at the same time.

I don't know. that's why I asked. personally, I don't think creatively it makes a difference but there's obviously something going on...The Movie was a big deal, Burrprint 3D was crazy and Mr. Zone 6 is by far his best post-jail mixtape. it's arguably better or at least as good as SVRD

everyone lauded the Lil Wayne/DJ Drama combo after Dedication and Dedication 2. it would be interesting if the same thing were going on with Gucci because I've never really thgouht of him as someone associated much in people's mind with Drama

maybe im projecting a bit of my feelings onto others here but my impression, lex, is that other than jordan who thinks its one of his best, most ppl around here think mr. zone 6 while nothing close to a fall-off isn't quite as dynamic as some of his other stuff? at least thats why i think

there are more replayable tracks off 'guccimerica' for me -- hooks & concepts are just stronger, even if lyrically hes more focused on mr. zone 6

fwiw 'zone 6 to duval' was my #1 gucci tape for a long time, but for some reason -- possibly just cuz i overplayed it so much when i was first really listening to his shit -- i just haven't pulled it out as much lately, so im probably underrating it slightly. its also one of the few unofficial tapes listed here afaik. ('unofficial' in the sense that it wasnt a release from gucci's camp, & is more like an odds & ends comp of '07-08 material, just really really well sequenced). I should also say that while jordan calls the dj speedy tracks gucci 'classics,' & i agree, they're def more 'mindgarden classics' than actual canonical gucci tracks to most gucci fans ive met -- theyre more into like 'photo shoot' 'im a dog' 'beat it up' etc -- the speedy tracks are pretty under the radar & speedy def ranks up as one of gucci's most underrated collaborators from the '07-08 shit
