born too late is so fucking badass

a CRASBO is a "criminally related" ASBO (contenderizer), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

that's pretty fucking funny from a dude who did that through the entire 2009 poll, ilxor

Yeah well good point, though I do try to interject with more "complaining" LOL-worthy asides and less so OMG THERE IS A BLACK METAL ALBUM IN THE TOP 20, I WILL SB EVERY VOTER ONCE I SEE YR BALLOTS, THESE RESULTS HAVE GOT TO BE MADE UP...

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

dudes, even though i realized early on that BM/Doom would be exceptionally well represented here, even i didn't expect this kind of an onslaught. results for me = weird but interesting.

ha, wolves, what a bunch of sissies (Ioannis), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

Now that everyone's happy again, let's have a dance party. I'm bringing my Kiss records. You bring your mom and dad.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:30 (fifteen years ago)

It's what gets discussed on the rolling thread a lot. Most of these doom/bm/dm albums are in their respective canons. It's not like some obscure albums that only 3 people have heard made it.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

I'm really happy with the heavy rock/stoner/doom/Sabbath-disciple segment being well-represented. Don't care much for death metal or black metal. The classic stuff is admittedly a blind spot, so it's cool to see these albums place and check them out and then finally get into some new OLD bands (Maiden, Slayer, Venom, Danzig) and, of course, confirm my dislike for others.

To think everyone was bummed about the Manics making the list

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

A Farewell To Kings no chance of being in the top 10, right

this might have been my #1 if i had voted, but no chance sadly

ciderpress, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

yaaaa! now we're talking top 10!

Without warning, a wizard walks by. (Viceroy), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Saint Vitus at #9 is a total shock to me, and a great surprise.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Glenn just told me that Decibel had Saint Vitus - Born Too Late in their Hall Of Fame articles a wee while ago.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

Born Too Late was my #44, but at least I have some kind of relationship with an album in the top 10. Was beginning to worry I wouldn't.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

I ended up ranking 2112 higher because "A Passage To Bangkok" > "Closer To The Heart", but sometimes "Cygnus X-1" is my favorite thing they ever recorded.

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

Dopesmoker in the top ten (five?) whodathunkit?

ha, wolves, what a bunch of sissies (Ioannis), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

also I should have ranked Hemispheres higher

man now I need to buy all of the Rush albums in addition to all of the Iron Maiden albums

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

Dopethrone, you mean? Dopesmoker was #16.

If I hadn't thrown out all my cassettes 10 years ago, I'd have given them to you.

(Plenty of cassettes I should've held on to, to be sure. That was before I realized I could turn them into mp3s.)

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

get the Beyond the Lighted Stage dvd, dan. you'll love it.

xps

ha, wolves, what a bunch of sissies (Ioannis), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

I really hope the Black Album places #1 for the lolz.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

when i got really into rush back in high school, the remasters of all their albums were priced at $9.99 at newbury comics which was like WHOA SO CHEAP at the time. so i bought them all.

ciderpress, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I think Dopethrone will be top 5 and Reign In Blood at #1. have we had Heartwork yet?

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

i'm still missing Counterparts though, but i've been told it's the ideal one to be missing

ciderpress, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

Dopethrone, you mean? Dopesmoker was #16.

d'oh! that's exactly what i meant.

ha, wolves, what a bunch of sissies (Ioannis), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

Counterparts is still better than Test for Echo. xp

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

dan can you change thread title to 10 instead of 50 please? Most wont realise we will be finishing in an hour or so. 75 mins max.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

instead of 20, i mean

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

so far this list has been badass as hell. the amount of upset it's causing is hilarious.

GREAT GUY: (marc iv), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:47 (fifteen years ago)

No-one talking about Paranoid but it's the most consistent Sabbath album for me, only one pointless number (Rat Salad) and I never need to hear the title track again, but the rest of it...probably their worst album cover though.

New thread title suggestion:

"I realize I'm exercising poor form here, but yes. I am formally questioning the validity of these results.": ILX HEAVY ROCK/METAL ALBUM POLL COUNTDOWN IN THE TOP 10 (ADDED BONUS: GET INSULTED BY A REAL LIVE DOG!)

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

Paranoid is my least favourite of the first six Sabbath albums but it's still a great record. Just not one I listen to much.

Gavin in Leeds, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

and now for an album by "the velvet underground of stoner rock/metal"

Even though I have Paranoid on cd now, I still have the cassette configuration in my head and almost never make it past the first half. But that first half is PHENOMENAL.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:51 (fifteen years ago)

Oh cool, wasn't expecting that!

Gavin in Leeds, Friday, 13 August 2010 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

Great Kyuss album, very glad to see it place here.

Wait, which major Sabbath hasn't dropped yet? Vol. 4? Sabbath Bloody Sabbath? And still Zep 4 (right?), Slayer ... Boris again? Not a lot of space left!

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 13 August 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

Vol 4 and MOR I think?

the same relation to machines as that which machines have to man (Matt #2), Friday, 13 August 2010 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

It's a big ilx metal album, but not enough to break the top 5.

where is everyone btw?
rollout is every 10 mins and we will be done in an hour and needle will be rolled out in a different thread (and at the end of that you can post your ballots).
ps can someone do the recap for me?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 August 2010 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

Vol 4 to drop next methinks

ha, wolves, what a bunch of sissies (Ioannis), Friday, 13 August 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)
