Carcass are putatively on a to-listen list! ANATOMY METAL 4EVA
― BLACK METAL IST KRIIIIIIIEEEEGGGGGGGGGGGG (acoleuthic), Thursday, 12 August 2010 16:54 (fifteen years ago)
So you like Heart?
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 12 August 2010 16:54 (fifteen years ago)
Still can't bring myself to listen to a band called Carcass.
Shallow, I know.
― ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Thursday, 12 August 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
Heartwork kind of marks their break from anatomy metal. It has incredibly solid, almost traditional songwriting wrapped up in the most perfectly calibrated overdriven soundscapes.
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 12 August 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
ha if that name is a no go, there are going to be a lot of unpassable hallways in the metal world imo xpost
― gg eileen (jjjusten), Thursday, 12 August 2010 16:57 (fifteen years ago)
I really like that Agalloch song until the singer breaks into the "scary" voice around 7 minutes. It's really hard to take that shit seriously.

I saw High on Fire circa that album, I think, at some lame show in Chicago called the Festival of the Extreme that featured Motorhead, Mortis (I think?) and was supposed to be hosted by Dana Plato, but she killed herself a few days before. There were something like 11 people standing there watching HIgh on Fire, half with fingers in ears but all smiling like children.

Nice list so far. Some albums from these results that are new to me and my first impressions:
Lord Weird Slough Feg - Twilight of the IdolsThis is okay. I don't really like the vocals or the bagpipes. Reminds me of Iron Maiden I guess, but I don't think I needed another Iron Maiden (I do like Iron Maiden). I like it enough to give it a few more chances to overwhelm me though.
Trouble - Manic FrustrationI don't really like this. Sounds like corny late 80's metal with bad vocals and too much of that high-pitched wailing that I can pretty much only tolerate from Rob Halford.
Drudkh - Blood in Our WellsI really like this. Not sure that I like it as metal qua metal. I'm not sure if I would put this on if I was in the mood to listen to metal, but it's really good (and clearly metal) and would definitely fulfill some other type of music listening mood for me.
Enslaved - Below the LightsI liked this, but it's too symphonic for my tastes. I like my metal pummeling, like Seasons in the Abyss or Leviathan, not so epic and grandiose.
High on Fire - Surrounded by ThievesThis is pretty good on initial listen, but I need a few more listens to digest it, I guess. Pretty good though. Pretty thunderous.
Venom - Actually listened to At War With Satan, and not the album that ranked in this list, but I thought it was really great. Loved everything about it. Looking forward to giving it another listen, and also checking out Black Metal and Welcome to Hell.

Wait, this most of been behind the first album, "Art of Self Defense." My bad. Not many folks knew what to expect!
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 August 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
TRD> hello. That Trouble album is very different to what came before, it's not a doom album, it's very much a psychedelic rock album, the most accessible thing they ever did, but great! but a couple of the earlier doom metal albums are even better!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 12 August 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
Now is when all the Motley Crue and Dokken and Ratt start showing up, right? RIGHT?
