Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

Bill & co, was ozzy solo too pop metal commercial for you? I know a lot of sabbath fans hate solo ozzy.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 14:57 (fifteen years ago)

Have you heard Angel Dust all the way through, Drugs A Money? If not, do it now.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

I did not, I did have Stone the Crow on my song ballot however.

Herm, I like some of the Rhoades guitar work, but Ozzy solo is not my cup of tea. Especially in light of the awesome shit that Sabbath rolled out with Dio. It just seemed like kind of a joke compared with what he did before.

some real metal coming to make up for the totally false metal that follows it that j3ff treppel pushed into the top 100

Ozzy was the least piece of Sabbath, as the Dio years ably proved. So watered down Ozzy wasn't something to look forward too, IMO.

^ essential

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

Are they the same band as Slough Feg?

rhythm fixated member (chap), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

but Bill you gotta admit that at least Mr. Crowley is f'in awesome though! You have to love that song!

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, they're Slough Feg. They just had their strange dukedom confiscated but have bravely soldiered on.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:04 (fifteen years ago)

would I like Slough Feg?

BLACK METAL IST KRIIIIIIIEEEEGGGGGGGGGGGG (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

They shortened their name for the last 3 albums

Wonder if Henry knows who Ayn Rand is?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

btw this is the only Rush album I currently own, and it does in fact own

people are for loving (HI DERE), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

this is an unbelivable record. fucking genius.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

the story behind it is great: the record company apparently wanted a commercial pop album, or Rush would get canned. The boys essentially said "fuck you" and sent them this. Turned out to be the right move.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah I voted for this too. This slayed my cassette tape deck, but before then it just totally slayed.

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

rly want to hear 2112 tbh

BLACK METAL IST KRIIIIIIIEEEEGGGGGGGGGGGG (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

I love '70s Rush so much it's insane. These guys were so big where I grew up (Chicago) and I think they still are, even though i dont live there any more.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

then they did it in the 80s anyway?
xp

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

I brought out 2112 on a date once. Oh no, oh no, oh no... :' (

Looks like I had this thing at 7.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

Soundgarden and specifically Chris Cornell are the fucking nadir of hair metal-influenced hard-rock grunge bullshit.

But really, they're not. True, they've got a 'hair metal' album (Louder than Love, though it's got real substance to it) and on revision, some of Cornell's vocal histrionics - the 'YEEEAAAHH-HHHAAAS!' and the 'AWWWW-AAAWS!' - come across as hackneyed. But there's nothing bullshit about the tunes or the riffs.

7 in the poll.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:55 (fifteen years ago)

You're outnumbered on your Rush hate. Go enjoy the fine stylings of Vitalogy or some other crap like that.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

Good one, but certainly doesnt hold a candle to "No Code".

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

its a crime rush finished ahead of ace of spades and sabotage (and everything else)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:03 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, but the real list doesnt begin until the headbanging classic that is "Binaural" is listed.

and funnily enough...

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

Rush is great, fuck the haters. Only palatable way to listen to Ayn Rand theories and high fantasy imo.

Mordy, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:08 (fifteen years ago)

Henry is here!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:08 (fifteen years ago)

Led Zepplin is also a palatable way to listen to high fantasy, fyi

HI DERE, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah, i agree with that. forgot about zepp momentarily in the midst of being overcome by rush

Mordy, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:10 (fifteen years ago)

Without Rush, the album listed at #83 doesnt exist. So liking them and not liking Rush makes no sense, Herm.
