too high my arse
FAR too high. That better?
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)
Even though I voted for it, it's fine where it is.
― Fastnbulbous, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)
FAR too high.
Actually, yes, Kurt was far too high when he made this album...

Bleach was my highest-placed Nirvana album, I think appropriately for a metal poll.
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:53 (fifteen years ago)
Will Pearl Jam place higher with anything?

LJ, do you like Shrewsbury?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)
I love Nevermind, even though I haven't heard it in a few years. I think it's one of their better albums. But I didn't vote for it, because I thought it had no place in a metal poll.
― more lunacy and witchcraft! (kkvgz), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, Bleach is the only Nirvana album that belongs in a poll like this. Nevermind was always going to show somewhere, though, so this is a reasonable placing. [n.b. I like both albums, I just don't think Nevermind is that heavy]
― emil.y, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:56 (fifteen years ago)
Nevermind is just as heavy as Sabotage fwiw
― Darin, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 22:05 (fifteen years ago)
I've had reservations about the production, but no one was moved to veto it. Certainly heavier than MSP. I might be one of the few people who didn't much like it when it came out as I preferred Bleach, and about 40 other albums that came out in 1991, but over the years I had to admit I like it more and more.
― Fastnbulbous, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 22:06 (fifteen years ago)
I'm listening to Fudge Tunnel right now and it reminds me a lot of Bleach.
― more lunacy and witchcraft! (kkvgz), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 22:06 (fifteen years ago)
Fudge Tunnel were briefly touted as the UK's answer to Nirvana (Helmet would be a better comparison)

Curiously enough the drummer who I was playing with today was wearing a Fudge Tunnel t-shirt. Never been that keen on the local rawk, though.

In Utero > Nevermind > Bleach

Yes, a huuuuuge departure from O'Malleys typical work.

A lot of the tracks date to the very early 80s but the band never got to record an album despite being part of the NWOBHM scene. They were one of the few black sabbath influenced NWOBHM bands. Influenced lots of doom bands.

Listning to youtubes of this joint now. I've heard a variety of doom metal on this poll. I always steered clear of doom because I imagined it to be way slow and sludgy. I didn't realize that a lot of it was what I would call "metal" - no modifier. This Obsessed is some serious shit (uhhh...the good kind).
― more lunacy and witchcraft! (kkvgz), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)
I suppose doom & stoner can be a bit more trad in that it's very much influenced by 70s stuff, the big black sabbath influence. But lots of other stuff has been mixed with it as most of you know.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

Weight is SO good though - such a cool chillout vibe, and yet so heavy
