Okay, I've never heard this band before, but I'm listening to a youtube right now and it's pretty nice: gallopping classic metal with intelligible vocals. What the fuck at that album cover though? Is this some furry shit or what?

Obvs with a name like the Lord Weird Slough Feg, it's gonna be kinda weird, I guess.

well the point is that people know your vital opinion that a specific album is boring to you, and then they can coo at your cool demeanor and you can go braid each other's hair

Just catching up with the list now. Nice to see Superunknown placing, I love it but I didn't vote for it. This thing was an either/or proposition for me so I went with metal over heavy rock - Superunknown isn't metal, but Badmotorfinger is, so that got my vote.

Other things I should have nominated/voted for but missed in my haste to cast a ballot: Deicide 'Legion'; Earth 2; Melvins 'Houdini'. I'm sure there's more.

If Blessed Black Wings has the lowest rating, it's not for lack of trying -- that one has the best production, after all.

Thraft of Canann on Surrounded by Thieves may be the best thing they've ever done.

I misread that as "Thrust of Canann" -- yikes.

I think the 1st album is better and Blessed Black Wings/Death Is This Communion is better too, but Surrounded By Thieves is a lot of peoples fave. They're all GREAT though.

The 1st 2 are more doom-y/stoner i guess.

Last weekend I listened to Manilla Road - Open The Gates and Goatsnake - Flower Of Disease for the first time. Both are more fun than bouncy tiggers, and will seek out more. I'm reminded that I need to hear more YOB, but at that moment it's feeling like more an obligation than compulsion. I slogged through the first three Manic Street Preachers albums, and while one in four tunes are decent, it still felt mostly like a chore and left me unmoved. I'll shelve for another try later. I'll also wait 'til I'm in the mood for YOB.

Monster Magnet were a little hokey, but also pretty awesome for their first few albums. I listened to them a ton back in the day, and were definitely a gateway to Hawkind. Seemingly unrelated, but I also listened to a lot of Mule in the 90s, and feel like they've been unfairly forgotten. Their live shows were such a satisfying balance of a thick groove and a bludgeoning, like a southern rockin (via Michigan) version of Jesus Lizard.

They have, but if I had gone with just the top 100 that some wanted originally, none of these albums would have gotten the spotlight they deserve. Inc the ones johnny loves!
