Techno/House Bobbins 2010

Id say about half the Oni ayhun tracks have been great, the more industrial/experimental ones a lot less successful. OAR004 is the one ive played out most but 3 is definitely the one for the cuddly afterparties

so ... anyone else digging a made up sound this year?

how do people feel about the roll the dice album? maybe this isn't the perfect thread to discuss it (might have already mentioned it actually), but it's knife/fever ray-related and hits many of the same sweet spots as the recent emeralds and oneohtrix albums, with bits of dub techno mixed in. really well-produced stuff

RTD is legitimately awesome

the made up sound record was in seth troxler's picadilly picks so i call bobbins. The basic soul unit mixes he did slay.

yes, roll the dice is really great. has kind of a cluster/harmonia vibe goin on. only track i don't really like is "into the ground".

on first listen i didn't dig the new Demdike Stare as much as Symbiosis, but it might just need some time to sink in.

i had a dream last night i found a detroit techno album i'd never heard before! it was called ... ok i forget already what it was called but the cover was a photo of the moonscape with a green filter, and it was a collaboration between dego and ... someone from detroit. also several of the tracks had morgan geist co-production. i really miss finding new detroit techno.

Just listening now, not sure what to make of it really.

If I think of it as a non-Shed, anonymous album by someone I've never heard of it's OK.

The part of me wishing for some more nasty Shedfunk is thinking meh.

is anyone else feeling the schermate label out of italy? way more unteresting than prologue and all that fashionable shit. think early perlon mixed with the sampledelia side of mff and your half way there. funky post-minimal with weird grainy tape loops. it's very geeky stuff but i can't enough of it at the moment

i guess like russ gabriel and some of the weird weeded out mid-period ifach stuff is also a touchpoint for the wonderful techno record label called schermate from italy

has anyone heard the cdrs from this label? how do you even get hold of them?

I have a lot of time for Shed the DJ too. His FACT and recent RA mix both top dollar.

re MCDE no you cant just say that, you have to say why you think so

i think he's quite short on ideas and originality but also real good at what he does on a workmanlike level

also re: a lot of the shit people say about him he's done a lot to promote detroit house so it's a bit like rob hood fans complaining about mnml

Ouch. It was definitely a festival highlight for me. Probably 2nd best, actually.

Though it continues to bother me, the idea of MCDE (i.e. the name and image) was the reason I avoided him for a long time, but when I heard Deep Cuts 3 and 4 I was too enamoured to uphold my embargo.

the real good as a craftsman point is apposite, I'd say.
