Anyone heard anything they like that they hadn't heard before yet?

Will be investigating all of these:

252 Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss (1990) (275 Points, 7 votes)
249 Danzig - Danzig II (Lucifuge) (1990) (276 Points, 9 votes)
245 TIED Venom - Welcome to Hell (1981) (278 Points, 8 votes)
218 Danzig - Danzig III: How the Gods Kill (1992)
151 Venom · Black Metal (1982) (322 Points , 9 votes - ONE #1 vote)
145 Slayer · South of Heaven (1988) (1988)

^ These bands/albums are all totally unfamiliar to me (for better or for worse, I've never investigated 'em).

232 TIED Goatsnake - Flower of Disease (2000) (282 Points, 8 votes)
200 Ulver - Shadows of the Sun (2007) (292 Points, 9 votes)
178 Harvey Milk - Special Wishes (2006) (308 Points, 10 votes)
132 Agalloch · The Mantle (2002) (340 Points, 9 votes)

^ I like these bands but haven't heard these particular albums.

239 Floor - Floor (2002) (280 Points, 7 votes)

^ I already love Torche so this is a no-brainer.

213 Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R (2000) (287 Points, 9 Votes)

^ I owned this in high school circa 2001, sold it when I needed $$, and now I want it again.

Oh man. The Mantle is great. I don't think that I ended up voting for it but really glad that it placed as well as it did.

the mantle is pretty decent, but the clean elements ruin it for me. it makes it too serious and nice, and not in the way i like. acoustic instruments do not belong in black metal i think.

That was my favourite album ever once upon a time.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 9 August 2010 21:22 (fifteen years ago)

I need to listen to this more (despite playing it to death in 1994)

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 21:22 (fifteen years ago)

Last time I tried to listen to it all the way through I couldn't really muster the stamina. The opening run of seven tracks still sounded killer though.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 9 August 2010 21:25 (fifteen years ago)

I remember everyone going apeshit over "March of the Pigs" and "Closer" but I really thought the heart of the album was "Heresy" and "I Do Not Want This"

also "Hurt" 4eva

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

All about the triple whammy of Closer, Ruiner and Becoming.

Maiden's best album.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 9 August 2010 21:40 (fifteen years ago)

Esoteric should have cut their album to the opening track and the three songs on the second disc - it'd be WAY more palatable that way and wouldn't lose its truly killer material

visit europe more (acoleuthic), Monday, 9 August 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

I remember liking Paradise City a bit when I was a v. young, but my gateway to metal was definitely Faith No More's Epic--8-year old me was obsessed with that video.

Of course, it didn't really stick until grunge...
