the mantle is pretty decent, but the clean elements ruin it for me. it makes it too serious and nice, and not in the way i like. acoustic instruments do not belong in black metal i think.

OH SICK ALBUM NICE!

That was my favourite album ever once upon a time.

I need to listen to this more (despite playing it to death in 1994)

Last time I tried to listen to it all the way through I couldn't really muster the stamina. The opening run of seven tracks still sounded killer though.

I remember everyone going apeshit over "March of the Pigs" and "Closer" but I really thought the heart of the album was "Heresy" and "I Do Not Want This"

Maiden's best album.

Esoteric should have cut their album to the opening track and the three songs on the second disc - it'd be WAY more palatable that way and wouldn't lose its truly killer material

I remember liking Paradise City a bit when I was a v. young, but my gateway to metal was definitely Faith No More's Epic--8-year old me was obsessed with that video.

Of course, it didn't really stick until grunge...
