one of my votes!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 8 August 2010 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

Essential stuff, though it is obviously not metal.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 8 August 2010 18:09 (fifteen years ago)

did 'gluey porch treatments' really come out in '87? wow. i only got this and 'ozma' quite recently and it's really striking how short the songs actually are. at this early point in their career they seem kinda like a metal analogue of webern: deployment of disproportionate resources (webern = orchestra, melvins = massive sludgy, metal riffs and hanging beats) in the creation of exquisite, hypercondensed miniatures.

Listening to Cobalt for the first time ever. Nice. I'd like more BM if it sounded like this.

My #3. Fantastic album, thought it'd be a lot higher. It can't be metal enough for this poll.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 8 August 2010 19:37 (fifteen years ago)

Nothing can be metal enough for some metallers.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 8 August 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

Absolutely love that Cobalt album. At this rate none of my picks are gonna make the top 100.

ears are wounds, Sunday, 8 August 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

haha me too, great album and half my picks I think already placed.

ears are wounds, Sunday, 8 August 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

great album but I didn't vote for it.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 8 August 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)

Not me xp. I placed TWO other MSP albums above it.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 8 August 2010 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

i am listening to this gorguts album, obscura. it's awesome. cool that it's from nearby.

GREAT GUY: (marc iv), Sunday, 8 August 2010 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

I was surprised the Gorguts record was so low to be honest. Sacred cow backlash?

underwater, please (bear, bear, bear), Sunday, 8 August 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

As for more extreme stuff placing lower than you expect, a lot of the extreme metal fans don't vote, possibly because an ilm poll wont vote for them. Also quite a few of the rolling metal thread regulars don't post. So I'm surprised the extreme stuff has placed so well til now.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 8 August 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

Expected Monoliths & Dimensions to be way higher. Not looking forward to the all Sabbath/Maiden top 20 tbh.

ears are wounds, Sunday, 8 August 2010 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

not unhappy but M&D is a great album that I'd imagine a few metal folk are reticent to even hear let alone praise because O'Malley/Anderson have SULLIED THE METAL with AVANT SHIT
