Especially Gomez, indie Brit wimps who SOUND like a bad jam band!
(In the United States, noise bands might be the new jam bands. Or maybe American indie wimp emo bands. Or maybe alternative rap groups. Or alt country bands. Or the Flaming Lips. Or something else.)

Seems to me the only things these genres/bands have in common is that in general you don't like them.

― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)
1. I criticize one of the genres a lot.
therefore
2. I must not like any of them.
Can't argue with that logic, I guess!
― chuck, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)
But I wouldn't mind a little more of your ludicrous "Chambers Brothers are dub metal" spiel. That shit was funny.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)
Then post here and explain what's so "ridiculous" about it, moron:
RFI : Dub metal

Chuck, isn't that precisely what you are in relation to Big & Rich and countless other pop country rubbish acts?
― Thor (Thor), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)
Ah, point taken. I'm surprised people would react that way to Coldplay - I don't know anyone who gives a shit about them in the states and they seem so deliberately pedestrian. Although when I travel their presence on the airwaves does seem ubiquitous... maybe they strike a nerve us yanks just don't have.

>... emphasize "virtuosity and spontaneity and transcendence and complexity and authenticity", while being acting like you're unaware that such vague categories could be found in just about ANY genre

Bottom line: DMB sucks, and therefore you must suck for liking them.
Case closed. Next?

I love how the sarcasm of this one doesn't really hit til the ironic punchline about all those exciting PJ Harvey and Le Tigre and (this is the obvious clue) Yo La Tengo records. Like, if only all those clueless Counting Crows fans heard those, they'd never turn back!

The other funny (and clearly intentional) thing is that Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Le Tigre, and Yo La Tengo present themselves as just as "earnest," if not more so, as Hootie and the Crows! (Not to mention the stupid dismissal-of-random-r&b-act-as-meaningless crap.)
