Great album hampered by shitty production, although I think the truekvltnwobhm gang prefer it that way. Apparently the producer mic'ed the guitar cabs from a different room, which is why the guitars sound like they're playing in a different room, unsurprisingly.

Essential stuff, though it is obviously not metal.

did 'gluey porch treatments' really come out in '87? wow. i only got this and 'ozma' quite recently and it's really striking how short the songs actually are. at this early point in their career they seem kinda like a metal analogue of webern: deployment of disproportionate resources (webern = orchestra, melvins = massive sludgy, metal riffs and hanging beats) in the creation of exquisite, hypercondensed miniatures.
