there is good stuff here. i like plenty of stuff listed, but i LOVE, like, 14 of these albums. i counted. including the dissection and the young gods album that just popped up. 14 albums i love on any list is a good sign. probably. most lists suck.

i never actually knew anyone who listened to the screaming trees. i knew that they must be out there though. got the new album by the sad trees singer and the lady from belle & sebastian? or did i dream that? wouldn't play in my cd player though. so i didn't hear it.

I loved then pretty much as soon as i got into grunge in 91. was great trying to find their old albums in shops back then. Got em all bar clairvoyance which wasnt available (til a few years ago)

A classic album next, I didn't vote for it, but I finally got it on vinyl a year or so ago.

sort of confused what a neophyte like myself is supposed to do with such a long list. i guess when it's over, i can start with the top 10, but atm it's either "i may recognise this band name but really i don't know them" or "oh sweet some given album that i happen to be familiar with." if i'm going to listen to anything it's going to be because they have a sweet cover.

I think death metal doing better so far

Gotta say, as a casual but enthusiastic metal (or whatever) fan, this poll has been great, if only as a means of jogging my memory. For example, I can't think of the last time I put on Voivod, but that oversight has been remedied. I'd never heard of Witchfinder General, to be honest, so that got a listen. And even Danzig (solo) I'd never dived into, so that's in the queue! Frankly, the only stuff I'm wary of exploring is the more contemporary death/black stuff, just because I'm not a huge fan of the vox and prefer metal's proggier side. But I'll happily split the difference with something like Opeth, and even then I may one day get around to stuff like Gorguts.
