First couple years in college I sort of lost track of metal cuz the 1988 albums by Iron Maiden and Metallica disappointed me. In 1990 I sat in on a friend's metal radio show and this Slayer album reawakened my inner metalhead. I went back to South Of Heaven and couldn't believe I slept on it. Top ten stuff for me.

doing up until 240 (which is a tie) tonight btw. No late night like yesterday.
The aim is to get to 151 by sunday night. Then 30 a day from then.

Hopefully Henry will be around to help at the weekend.

Release in January, 1968, I might consider Vincebus Eruptum the first heavy rock album. Vanilla Fudge came out the previous year, but it's not nearly as heavy and wasn't included in the nomination list. Nor were Cream or Hendrix.

Worship were great, but "mad" max committed suicide after the first album, so anything after just isn't the same.

Well I think they're all great but more or less interchangeable.

Venom - awesome, I prefer this one to Black Metal. For a band that were largely considered a complete joke at the time (by themselves too really) they sure as hell have been influential, I wonder what they think of the genres they spawned?

this has Bloodlust and 1000 Days in Sodom on it but Black Metal has Black Metal and Countess Bathory AND Buried Alive.

The production on Sons Of Satan tips it for me

its more sludge/doom but man they're great. One of my fave Grief albums didn't even get nominated :(

yeah its very sludgy I think they were on like a thrash/punk label for most of their releases.

I didn't even vote for Grief, they didn't survive the cull in my 250 album shortlist! So really pleased this placed.
