Too low. That album crushes.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 6 August 2010 19:34 (fifteen years ago)

Let there be light, and there was light
Let there be sound, and there was sound
Let there be drums, there was drums
Let there be guitar, there was guitar, ah
Let there be rock

And it came to pass...

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 6 August 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

Aenima's pretty great, but for some reason (out of all the ones I heard), Opiate is my favorite Tool album.

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 6 August 2010 19:41 (fifteen years ago)

I shoulda mentioned I realized much of the false metal talk was tongue in cheek. Guess it was just gettin old. New jokes please!

How many guitar players does it take to change a light bulb?

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 6 August 2010 19:47 (fifteen years ago)

not screw in a light bulb?

Henry posting the next one?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

I am joking whenever I accuse something of falseness... I mean I voted for More than A Feeling on the tracks poll.

Is Henry back?

Without warning, a wizard walks by. (Viceroy), Friday, 6 August 2010 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

I waver between Opiate and Undertow, usually settling on Undertow

but I listen to The Thirteenth Step more than anything else

people are for loving (HI DERE), Friday, 6 August 2010 19:58 (fifteen years ago)

Henry and I are enjoying a very short moment on the interwebs while i speed eat and then return to work in mere moments, so pfunk prob should just keep rolling them out and we'll see if he is available later for comment

Would definitely have voted for this. Should be higher!

emil.y, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

why didn't you vote!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

There were only about 8 albums that I had any real passion for. Thought it would be better to leave this poll to the real metal dudes.

yaaaay this list is pretty sweet so far. i mean i haven't heard a lot of these albums, but based on the quality so far the top 100 is going to be a goldmine of goodness.

marc iv, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:23 (fifteen years ago)

As the ancient proverb goes, if you leave things to the "real metal dudes" you get Iggy Pop and the Osmonds, and some obscure logic that explains how Darkthrone are actually the best band ever even though hardly anybody likes them.

(I didn't vote, either, because I would have needed to nominate the things I would have voted for, and I was too busy to deal with nominating when it was happening.)

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:24 (fifteen years ago)

That album is great! I asked my friend once what Napalm Death album I should get first as good introduction and he immediately led me to this one.

Without warning, a wizard walks by. (Viceroy), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)

what exactly a real metal dude? Do they like bongs, wizards, and watching fantasy movies? Or is that a different kind of dude?

Without warning, a wizard walks by. (Viceroy), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

No one can describe a real metal dude, because they never come outside.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:29 (fifteen years ago)

lol

Without warning, a wizard walks by. (Viceroy), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:31 (fifteen years ago)

From Enslavement is unbelievably low, however, see my assertion on the other thread that basically me and the good Colonel like grindcore and nobody else.

I guess the options for the guitar player joke are well covered in that thread!

Boston is not a bad album, but I'd have vetoed it had I noticed it in the nom thread. I mean, what next, Kansas? Styx? REO Speedwagon?

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:46 (fifteen years ago)

When I "graduated" from middle school, in 1981 in Texas, my parents asked me if there was something special I wanted as a congratulatory present. There was: the then-imminent third Boston album.

They did, indeed, buy it for me. In Boston, in the fall of my sophomore year of college, when it finally came out...

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

I think Boston just about count as heavy rock, as does early REO Speedwagon in fact. Why? RIFFS.

Swans may well be actually the heaviest band on this list.

WTF Children of God down here. So much for me thinking my albums looked like they would do well.

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

xp to Aldo I like a bit of grindcore too, and voted for Scum in this poll.

Neil S, Friday, 6 August 2010 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, i like grind (death and black) metal, too. i just like late-'60s - mid-'80s metal more.

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Friday, 6 August 2010 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

nah it's cool, in fact here's a good opportunity- recommend me some good grindcore that's not Napalm Death. Electro Hippies? Nuclear Assault?

PS like that Ufomammut record, their new one's dead good too.

Neil S, Friday, 6 August 2010 21:28 (fifteen years ago)

I would say anybody looking into grindcore needs the first two Carcass albums, In Battle There Is No Law by Bolt Thrower, the Earache sampler Grindcrusher, at least one Pig Destroyer (Prowler In The Yard certainly) the latest Cattle Decapitator record and selective picking in the Anal Cunt catalogue. Also consider Heresy, Doom and Amebix for Crust goodness, although some of this might get too far into D-beat for you. SOB from Japan provide a really good link back into hardcore. Grindcore Madness At The BBC is essential.

That's exactly the comp that Spotify link points to. Thanks for all the advice, I will check it!
