Girlschool played here a few years back I think before key member Kelly Johnson died. I'm sorry I missed 'em. Great album. Bad Reputation might be my 2nd fave Thin Lizzy after Black Rose, so it should be higher. Judas Priest Stained Class might be their second best one, so I'm surprised to see it so low. Thumbs up to Ghost Reveries, Killer, I Against I, In Rock, Spine of God, Sin After Sin, Conference, Wheels of Steel, Killing Joke. I like the guitar playing on Presence. I think it was MOJO that had a great story about 4-6 years ago, reassessing Presence and talking about what the band was going through at the time (Plant had a child die I believe).
Is it maybe pointless to talk about "false metal" in a poll that includes all things heavy rock, where people had the opportunity to veto stuff?

Anyway, I'm listening to "Saturday Night Special" by Skynyrd right now and thinking it most definitely should have placed in the tracks poll. I'll probably be thinking that about all kinds of songs for the next little while, though, considering how the results went almost completely counter to my own tastes anyway.

Aenima's pretty great, but for some reason (out of all the ones I heard), Opiate is my favorite Tool album.

I am joking whenever I accuse something of falseness... I mean I voted for More than A Feeling on the tracks poll.

Is Henry back?
I waver between Opiate and Undertow, usually settling on Undertow
but I listen to The Thirteenth Step more than anything else

Henry and I are enjoying a very short moment on the interwebs while i speed eat and then return to work in mere moments, so pfunk prob should just keep rolling them out and we'll see if he is available later for comment

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)
There were only about 8 albums that I had any real passion for. Thought it would be better to leave this poll to the real metal dudes.

yaaaay this list is pretty sweet so far. i mean i haven't heard a lot of these albums, but based on the quality so far the top 100 is going to be a goldmine of goodness.
― marc iv, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:23 (fifteen years ago)
As the ancient proverb goes, if you leave things to the "real metal dudes" you get Iggy Pop and the Osmonds, and some obscure logic that explains how Darkthrone are actually the best band ever even though hardly anybody likes them.
(I didn't vote, either, because I would have needed to nominate the things I would have voted for, and I was too busy to deal with nominating when it was happening.)
― glenn mcdonald, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:24 (fifteen years ago)
That album is great! I asked my friend once what Napalm Death album I should get first as good introduction and he immediately led me to this one.
― Without warning, a wizard walks by. (Viceroy), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)
what exactly a real metal dude? Do they like bongs, wizards, and watching fantasy movies? Or is that a different kind of dude?
― Without warning, a wizard walks by. (Viceroy), Friday, 6 August 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)
No one can describe a real metal dude, because they never come outside.

From Enslavement is unbelievably low, however, see my assertion on the other thread that basically me and the good Colonel like grindcore and nobody else.

I guess the options for the guitar player joke are well covered in that thread!
Boston is not a bad album, but I'd have vetoed it had I noticed it in the nom thread. I mean, what next, Kansas? Styx? REO Speedwagon?
― Fastnbulbous, Friday, 6 August 2010 20:46 (fifteen years ago)
When I "graduated" from middle school, in 1981 in Texas, my parents asked me if there was something special I wanted as a congratulatory present. There was: the then-imminent third Boston album.
They did, indeed, buy it for me. In Boston, in the fall of my sophomore year of college, when it finally came out...
