I had no idea about Stargazer, didn't even know it existed. Very very impressive song.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 6 August 2010 00:54 (fifteen years ago)

The first two Rainbow albums are quite good and filled with a bunch of classic tracks (search: The Man on the Silver Mountain). I think the first is better but not by a huge margin.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 6 August 2010 00:56 (fifteen years ago)

can I just say that the ppl whining about this list are the worst ppl on earth

people are for loving (HI DERE), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

Really? Worse than child molesters or serial killers?

kornrulez6969, Friday, 6 August 2010 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

STICK THAT BOOT IN A BIT FURTHER DAN I'M NOT QUITE DEAD

let it sb (acoleuthic), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:20 (fifteen years ago)

p.s. it's not a bad or unexpected list and I'm cool w/it as long as the albumz poll delivers

let it sb (acoleuthic), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:21 (fifteen years ago)

I think basically what this tracks poll establishes is: a) a bunch of people discovered "Stargazer" in the Dio-RIP thread, b) Supernaut and Ace of Spaces are rock-solid heavy metal exemplars, c) Metallica used to be good.

That's all. After that it's more or less a 100-way tie for 5th, and it trails off from there. There were two tracks in the top 20 that only beat the Osmonds by 4 votes, so complaining about placings is pointless. Too few voters, too little consensus.

Statistically speaking, the album side is quite a bit more coherent: maybe a top 50 or so with actual collective weight.

As entertainment, anything with Henry is fine with me.

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 6 August 2010 01:24 (fifteen years ago)

Nicely put Glenn.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 6 August 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)

Great job guys, Herm, JJ, Henry everyone else who helped and voted.

Top four songs fucking rock, and its poetic justice that an RJD song wins!

Last and least: fuck the haters. Mark iv, that's some bullshit to run this thing down. I bitched a lot during it, but it was fun, so fuck you.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:26 (fifteen years ago)

I was out drinking and am too lazy to scroll up; what song were you guessing for #1, Bill?

people are for loving (HI DERE), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:27 (fifteen years ago)

Supernaut. You'll see midway through I wavered on it, based on the way things were going, but I cant complain about #1.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:30 (fifteen years ago)

All in all, this was a lot of fun, and checking in on it all the time cost me some serious productivity at work-but its worth it.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:31 (fifteen years ago)

It sure was. Good fun all around.
Thought there might still be more chat on what just missed out etc.
We still have emil.y's not quite live blogging to finish off too!

Check what just missed out! esp johnny & ez

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

Funny that I'm such a listoholic when it comes to albums, but when I contemplate ranking songs, my brain seizes up. I didn't get a song ballot in, but knew it was in capable hands. A fun, diverse list, thanx!

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 6 August 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)

Only one other person voted for "Rock You Like a Hurricane". ;_;
Only one other person voted for "Nobody's Fool". ;_; ;_; ;_;

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 August 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)

Oh wait, I essentially voted twice for those, because they were on EZ's ballot. Never has the message been clearer to me that I am an island.

Yes. That was the Stargazer of post-poll wrapups.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 6 August 2010 03:46 (fifteen years ago)

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 6 August 2010 04:59 (fifteen years ago)

let me check further and get back to you

NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE CGI (jjjusten), Friday, 6 August 2010 05:43 (fifteen years ago)

Yup. Track list sent on 7/21/10 at 6:12pm CST.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 6 August 2010 05:55 (fifteen years ago)

a bunch of people discovered "Stargazer" in the Dio-RIP thread,

That may be the case, then they discovered a real treat. My memories of it go back to Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show all time tracks pollin the early 80s where it would always finish in the top 3 with 'Smoke on the Water' and 'Stairway to Heaven'.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Friday, 6 August 2010 07:09 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks to all for organising, looking forward to the Spotify playlist and of course the albums poll!

but this list is rather reactionary, no offence *shit-eating grin*

What does this even mean? Reactionary because there's very little god-awful prog rock, a genre that is arguably horribly reactionary itself? In other words, unless you have something positive to contribute, maybe try something new and keep it shut.

Neil S, Friday, 6 August 2010 07:23 (fifteen years ago)

'twas a lot of fun, thanks v much guys

frap rock (crüt), Friday, 6 August 2010 09:19 (fifteen years ago)

This list is fucking bonkers but if it was like a Spotify playlist round someone's house w/ a bunch of beers I'd be completely fine about listening to it

I didn't vote but I almost never vote in ilx polls

someone who has fainted mid-squeeze at a Real Big Fish gig recently (DJ Mencap), Friday, 6 August 2010 09:30 (fifteen years ago)

word. shocked (and delighted) by the winner, fwiw.

Quo riff just isn't a suitable vehicle for interplanetary exploration (Ioannis), Friday, 6 August 2010 10:11 (fifteen years ago)

kjb , will need to get glenn to check the results, but we definitely got your ballot, i dunno what happened. fuck

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 11:08 (fifteen years ago)

Definitely no KJB tracks ballot in the spreadsheet, and thus none in Needle. Obviously no technical problem with adding it now, but no doubt riots would ensue if it changed the winners. So maybe declare martial law briefly before updating?

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 6 August 2010 11:25 (fifteen years ago)

glenn, im on googlechat, will chat to you when you get on.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

osmonds till wouldnt make it btw. a couple of songs would move up a bit.
kjb im really really sorry, i dunno what happened.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 11:35 (fifteen years ago)

Great that a song I've never heard of before won it. But it wouldn't have won if Ronnie James hadn't popped his clogs this year, would it?

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Friday, 6 August 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

My original hopes for this poll would be that every voter besides myself would be like Chon D and Roxy and various other serious metal dudes and they would all have pretty serious opinions about the merits of exciting occult shit like Methgaroth and Burning Tomb and Funeral Battle. But in the end, I learned about a few much more basic bands that I should have been paying attention to anyway.

they dont vote, but albums list will be more to your (and maybe their) liking.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 11:48 (fifteen years ago)

Well yeah, I know they don't vote, but like, shadowy images of them or something.

I don't think you will be disappointed by the results

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 11:57 (fifteen years ago)

An army of miniature Roxy- and John-shaped demons that pour out of that hole in the backyard where the tree fell down after the lightning strike.

This is what I was expecting, too.

So glad it wasn't like that!

lol

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 12:36 (fifteen years ago)

It was a Metal AND Heavy Rock poll after all

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Friday, 6 August 2010 13:00 (fifteen years ago)

I feel tempted to do a straight glam/hair metal poll, since that genre seemed to almost completely get the shaft.

more lunacy and witchcraft! (kkvgz), Friday, 6 August 2010 13:07 (fifteen years ago)

It's my honest hope however, that after this ILM will have sated itself on polls.

For a while, at least.
