21 Black Sabbath · Black Sabbath (1970) (558 points · 13 voters) (2 number one votes)
Black sabbath from the album black sabbath by the band black sabbath not to be confused with sabbath bloody sabbath from the album sabbath bloody sabbath by the band black sabbath. What kind of originality can you really expect from a bunch of scuzzy day laborers from england that were high all the time though really?

Ok, time to start counting down the stuff that matters and wasn't popped in here by lonely losers wasting their votes I guess.
― Henry Kvlt Pvp, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:38 (fifteen years ago)
Interesting that you say you are a "pup", I think there was a post saying you are 14. Lying about your age is unbecoming.

20 Black Sabbath · Paranoid (1970) (559 points · 12 voters - 1 number one vote)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZyVZFJGX5g
Paranoid from the album Paranoid ok you get the drill. The lyrics to this are a pretty good precursor to the fact that Ozzy was never going to make a goddamn bit of sense from here on out.
BONUS WIKIPEDIA TRIVIA:"In Finland it is an old joke that somebody who doesn't at the moment like the music the band is playing in any concert, is generally bored with current concert (any concert) or wants to peak his/her feelings at that moment shouts (loud so that everyone around and the band can hear) "play Paranoid!" ("soittakaa Paranoid!") just like "Free Bird" is often requested in the United States, and "Stairway to Heaven" in the UK."
really this explains so much
― Henry Kvlt Pvp, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:42 (fifteen years ago)
Man, those Finns are crazy.

― Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:50 (fifteen years ago)
well its not like we've had a dearth of of Sabbath... its kind of getting boring now.

The "play Paranoid!" shouting is so common on Finnish gigs that some bands even make preparations for it. Once I was on a gig where some local indie band was playing, and between songs someone shouted "Play Paranoid!", and all of sudden one band member raised a sign that said "PARANOID 100 MARKS, 80 MARKS WITH STUDENT DISCOUNT". (Mark was the Finnish currency before the Euro.) Then someone in the audience started collecting donations in a hat, and he managed come up with 80 Marks, so he gave that money to the band, which then promptly went on to play "Paranoid".
― Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
Tuomas!!! Hi!!! Did you like the public enemy track making the list?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
No, too much metal in it.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:54 (fifteen years ago)
lol
― Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
The only metal tunes I like are "Nothing Else Matters" and "Hero of the Day" by Metallica.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:57 (fifteen years ago)
Nothing in this thread at all so far then?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
― SAUSAGE LIVES ON IN MY HEART (and much of my gi tract prob) (jjjusten)
I was the other #1. Far too low.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
Have you ever seen Spinal Tap, Tuomas?
― Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
The Funkadelic tunes are quite okay, but I don't see how they're metal.

19 Saint Vitus - Born Too Late (1986) 563 Points, 18 votershttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RnRDizzBM0Every time I'm on the streetPeople laugh and point at meThey talk about my length of hairAnd the out of date clothes I wear
They say I look like the living deadThey say I can't have much in my headThey say my songs are much too slowBut they don't know the things I know
I know I don't belongAnd there's nothing I can doI was born too lateAnd I'll never be like you
In my life things never changeTo everybody I seem strangeBut in my world now something's diedSo I just stare with these insane eyes
I know I don't belongAnd there's nothing that I can doI was born too lateAnd I'll never be like you
Saint Vitus is cool and all. I even voted for them, but not above, what, 7 or 8 other Black Sabbath tracks? You people are mad.
― Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)
its called vote splitting, everyone has their own faves
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:07 (fifteen years ago)
I see this as a positive development in the countdown. Much of the Sabbath vote-splitting is out of the way now. Saint Vitus gets a ton of people rallying behind a common unifying track. I can't listen to this right now, but look forward to it when I get home.
xp

Yes, that "Super Stupid" is not heavy in the slightest, duh
― tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)
18 people voted for it, so you cant really argue with it. Plus when do you ever see vitus in an alltime countdown? ILM excelling itself here for now
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)
I love this song, it was very high in my ballot.
― Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:16 (fifteen years ago)
Some songs are "canon" within their genre, but aren't well known outside of it. So it surprises some people (especially ones who dont hang out on the rolling metal thread). But if they vote, they get represented, and hurrah for that.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:17 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, I fully expected "Born Too Late" to show up. But it should probably be somewhere between 51-100.
― Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:19 (fifteen years ago)
i wasnt really talking about you, you've been known to pop up in that thread!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)
still in the 80s for the next one btw..
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:21 (fifteen years ago)
I just realized this countdown is missing "Barracuda". Did anyone even remember to nominate Heart? :(
