I won't dismiss an entire genre based on one terrible song by a band with a stupid name, but it's not looking good.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 13:42 (fifteen years ago)

that's a great song.

Great, some more bullshit.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 13:59 (fifteen years ago)

It's where it's at these days

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:01 (fifteen years ago)

I'm now reminded out loud why I pretty much abandoned metal in the '90s. It got extreme just for the sake of itself. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:02 (fifteen years ago)

no, no, no. how is this better than war pigs.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:02 (fifteen years ago)

It's not.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:03 (fifteen years ago)

It's hipper

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:03 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, like "psssst...you listen to Mayhem right? Those freako murderer cannibal dudes? No? Well I can't be seen talking to you anymore, fuck off."

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:05 (fifteen years ago)

I like the Mayhem track quite a bit but didn't vote for it. The Darkthrone I can appreciate for it's significance but is so not my thing.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:07 (fifteen years ago)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:29 (fifteen years ago)

boffo idea! xps

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:29 (fifteen years ago)

Okay, are you fucking kidding me? Three QOTSA tracks from the same album w/in seven spaces? Settle on a favorite, people, and then vote THAT ONE up. You're crowding out shit I LIKE.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:30 (fifteen years ago)

Oh great, more Weezer. Do we get the Foo Fighters too?

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:31 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna check out if this countdown doesn't get better quicklike.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:31 (fifteen years ago)

LOL Fantastic!!!

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

thank you pfunkboy you've made it a day to remember!

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

Wouldn't be an ilm metal poll without Statler & Waldorf ^

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

EZ and I are going on tour. Buy your tickets now.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

I know it's only been 8 minutes, but let's get to the next one. We obviously (as a whole) don't care about QOTSA placements. DA.M had a little birthday celebration (yay!), but let's get back to business.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:37 (fifteen years ago)

There hasn't been a group singing of happy birthday yet or a cake

^ probz more appropriate.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

good enough. Scott sewards friend Liz is in this next band..

Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis (2000) (506 Points, 12 votes)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

One of my votes btw

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

I would have voted for "Birthday Dethday" had I thought to nominate it

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)

Okay, no offense to Scott or his friend Liz, but this is the 26th greatest metal tune of all time? FUCK, I'M OUT.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)

*pulls johnny back, clamps him at his desk*

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:45 (fifteen years ago)

it gets more JF friendly, after all theres still about 20 sabbath tracks to come..

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:46 (fifteen years ago)

but JF is right, Funeralopolis should be much higher! Shame on you ILM!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:47 (fifteen years ago)

I'm serious, that is HORRIBLE. I'm thinking of all the dozens of songs that were robbed of the opportunity to place at #26 but couldn't because this gobbledygook crowded it out. I think great portions of the electorate here might be slightly retarded.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

Well, Liz hadn't joined at that point so don't hold it against her. I like "Funeralopolis" quite a bit but only in the context of the album. I've never played it outside of listening to the whole record.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

this is a brilliant song by a brilliant band.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

Okay, no offense to Scott or his friend Liz, but this is the 26th greatest metal tune of all time? FUCK, I'M OUT.

^agree. I will stick around, but this is a weird placing.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

there's been hardly anything from the 00s. chill out dudes!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

Quite enjoy the Darkthrone and the Mayhem tracks. Both got a feverish quality about them which I find quite seductive. More blurred, dreamlike stuff please (sorry if that makes me a hipster).

Chaim Poutine (NickB), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

I dig this a lot. Hadn't heard it before

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

remember, this is ILM voting, not Kerrang, Rolling Stone or Classic Rock voting (though im not sure about the latter actually).
You didn't want a same old bands/songs boring canonical list did you?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:52 (fifteen years ago)

so actually four of my votes have made it (Unsung/Children/War Pigs/Avon) and I predict maybe two or three more will make it, but this poll is jampacked with surprises, so you never know...

Birthday wish-list:

-another High on Fire song (not necessarily the song I voted for)
-Tourette's
-maaaaybe Night Goat by the Melvins (pretty tall order I know)
-no G'n'R or AC/DC in the top 5

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

johnny youre my on thread stats recape dude. tell us how many songs from the 60s,70s,80s,90s,00s we've had so far.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

I don't read Kerrang, Rolling Stone or Classic Rock (is that an actual magazine?), so I'm really not familiar with their canons. I mean, I peeped at them when you posted a link before, but I don't remember anything really. All I know is that we're 75 songs into this thing and there's still no Van Halen, no Scorpions, no Megadeth, and no Anthrax.
