― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)
Guessing Master of Puppets and/or For Whom the Bell Tolls will beat Enter Sandman in this crowd.
― kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)
(at the very least!)
― kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:34 (fifteen years ago)
I voted for all 3 (sorry), and Master... and ...Bell Tolls were both above Enter Sandman.
― Neil S, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:35 (fifteen years ago)
"Enter Sandman" is a cock
― Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:35 (fifteen years ago)
Enter Sandman is a pretty decent Megadeth song.
― kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:36 (fifteen years ago)
Can only blame it being all over MTV the first time I went to the US.
― Neil S, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:37 (fifteen years ago)
"Bill which is falser Smells Like Teen Spirit or Enter Sandman ?"
Oh, god, SLTS by a mile.
― Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:41 (fifteen years ago)
so I've asked this like a bazillion times but WHAT IS METAL?
― Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:42 (fifteen years ago)
because apparently the divide I made as a youngster is wrong and all of this stuff I considered "hard rock" or "classic rock" is actually metal, which in and of itself seems to be about as all-encompassing as "music" given the way you guys use it
so, what makes something metal? What are the common threads?
― Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:43 (fifteen years ago)
I'm on the outside of this sect looking in, I think, but metal seems by all account to be defined by a feeling you get in your testicles. If there's no rumbling, it's false.
(And yes, feeling it in your testicles is really girl-exclusionary...just like metal.)
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:46 (fifteen years ago)
Bill & Alex In NYC decide what is metal round here.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:52 (fifteen years ago)
by that definition, Miami bass is metal
― Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:56 (fifteen years ago)
btw enter sandman and smells like teen spirit are the threads equivalent of taylor swift & the xx, everyone knows they will place high so start the bitching earlylol
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:57 (fifteen years ago)
i can only promise one thing, lots of false and tr00 metal to come!
ready for 84?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:58 (fifteen years ago)
I guess it comes down to what Justice Stewart said about obscenity: I can't define it, but I know it if I (hear) it.
― Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 15:05 (fifteen years ago)
Me neither, it was close but it got there in the end.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 15:06 (fifteen years ago)
Hey Dan have you worked out yet that metal is a broad church and every metalhead hates most other sub-genres of it ? ;)
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

― Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 15:21 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah... sorry.
I mean, there are definitely days I'd place the xx above Taylor. Sorry, poor judgment.
Otherwise, ilxor OTM.

jftr, my deff of metal: any post-cream/hendrix guitar music that was influenced by in some essential way (ie, volume, heft, noize, corn, etc.) by c/h, and/or their zillions of disciples).
― deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

I got mad stick from everyone at school after that Word performance. "Are they one of 'your' bands? Fucking awful. Why don't you listen to Jamiroquai instead?"
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:03 (fifteen years ago)
deff heavy rock, just not extremely metal all that often.
― deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)
I doubt Cream or Hendrix fans would consider them "metal"
Bill magill are they false?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:11 (fifteen years ago)
if "Purple Haze" ain't metal then nothing is.
