Is it in a real jewelcase in the UK? I haven't bought it yet because I really hate digipacks. If it is I can order it now.

svend (svend), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

I've only seen digipacks in shops here.

zebedee (zebedee), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

mr. gumb, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

In Germany it`s a digipack.

djangojones (djangojones), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

If they get a UK release agin, I will trip the light fantastic.
-- B.A.R.M.S. (b4rim4_...), November 5th, 2004.

I'm trippin' and it feels gooooooood.

The Sunday Times were all over them at the weekend, even going as far as to use the band's name as the theme to their weekly word association songlist. One of the other tracks got played loudly in Virgin a few hours ago. New sleeve doesn't compare to the old one. Has anyone heard their current UK B-side, 'Petit Mort'?

BARMS, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

That new sleeve is terrible. It's not a Matthew Barney video.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

i've ordered the single but i haven't heard the b-side yet

carson dial (carson dial), Friday, 9 September 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

Saw them live last night.

I'm in love.

Ally C (Ally C), Saturday, 10 September 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

they were definitely the highlight of this year's TDK for me. the album is just wonderful. wish i'd seen their london show last week but was too busy, dammit. is there more than one album*?

*new non-broken social scene answers please

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 10 September 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

Stars have two albums (i think) preceding this. Heart was very well received, but Night Songs is good too.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Saturday, 10 September 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

Umm, I swear there was more in the textbox when I posted that the other day (Amy was yelling that during the penultimate song of the night). They were ace at the Garage on Wednesday, seemingly touched by the number by the number of people who turned up to see them…

carson dial (carson dial), Saturday, 10 September 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

Saw them at the Roadhouse in Manchester on Thursday night - truly fantastic. The energy coming from the band was so infectious and they played and sang gorgeously. They'd never played Manchester before, but one of the guitarists even had a homemade "Madchester Rave On" t-shirt on, and as noted above Torq seemed surprised at how warm their welcome was.

Honestly, it was the kind of show that lifts them into "favourite band" status. Fucking briliant.

Bill A (Bill A), Saturday, 10 September 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

They seemed quite genuinely surprised that anyone at all had come to see them in Glasgow - as it was the place was pretty much full and everyone was going crazy. Torq kept going on about how his dad is from here. So that was nice. I think it was of the best 2 or 3 shows I've seen in my life.

Also, "This song is about fucking someone IN ORDER TO KILL THEM" is possibly my favourite introduction to a song, ever.

Ally C (Ally C), Saturday, 10 September 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Just to keep the Stars love alive, links to a couple of videos from this site (which has some great other vids too):

http://videos.antville.org/topics/Stars/

The vid for Reunion is class.

Bill A (Bill A), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Stars have two albums (i think) preceding this. Heart was very well received, but Night Songs is good too.

And if you can find the "a lot of little lies..." ep, it's absolutely fantastic. The "This Charming Man" cover is perfect.

mikef (mfleming), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

"This Charming Man" is also on Nightsongs which is easier to find. I still haven't heard "Theme from Stars."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

Also, "This song is about fucking someone IN ORDER TO KILL THEM" is possibly my favourite introduction to a song, ever.

That made me cringe! As did the "OK, that concludes the existential love song part of the show – I think it's time to do some songs about FUCKING"

Indie bands shouldn't try to talk like that. It's just embarrassing.

I liked the show though.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

i thought it'd be like this:

*REVIVE*

As per usual, I pop out of the housetechdancefloor foxhole of my own creation to "discover" a band that people much cooler than myself have probably tired of by now. I bought "Reunion", "Stars", and the "This Charming Man" cover off of iTunes a few days ago. All three are amazing, and "Reunion" is set to replace Interpol's "Evil" as my New Favourite Thing Ever (tm).

What else do I need?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Never mind, I'll go with Cutty's proposed best-of CD.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

"Elevator Love Letter" is far and away my favorite track, but all the other tracks on my own best of are wonderful as well. I hope I never tire of Stars.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

yes, go with my best of! spencer's is appropriate as well.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

No No. Go with.. *MINE*. It's SOOOOO much better!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

sigh.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

(you know I was kidding right?)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

yes, boo.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, you two.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

re: the b-sides of 'ageless beauty', 'petit mort' is the worst song i've heard of theirs, and the remix is cute and beguiling

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Friday, 14 October 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

just kidding. the keyboardist is not hot.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 14 October 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 21 June 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

I think this song will always be able to cheer me up

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 21 June 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)

there is an acoustic version of this song for download on last.fm apparently

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 21 June 2007 02:54 (eighteen years ago)

Found the clip on youtube a couple of weeks back. I liked it! They sound like Lush. Well in that song anyway. It was very lovely.
