Their early stuff doesn't hold a patch to the new album. My opinion. No furrowed brows here.

Kinski are one of the bands that have a "flavor", and if you like the flavor, you're hooked.. if you don't, you shrug. And I can't say seeing Kinski "all the time" is essential, as they don't really vary the setlist and performance too much show to show.. but if you're outside Seattle, then catching them on the odd tour is always a good idea.

My only complaint about them live is that they seem too preoccupied making sure their transition to the next song is smooth (with inter song loops, pedal retweakings, etc.), and end up sacrificing any kind of stage charisma... They are capable of that! It's just you have to catch them when they do a drunken show at the odd dive in Seattle doing nothing but covers of GBV or whatever Flying Nun band they're immersed in that week. :)

Anyway, I would say that their new album, and the last album are pretty tied in my opinion. Both really great.

Hey Everyone,

Kinski has 2 shows in one night this coming Saturday in Seattle. Yep, we inadvertently got double booked. But you could actually go to both if you wanted.  And they're both really good shows. 

(These will be Kinski's last shows in Seattle until at least February (most likely). We're getting ready for our next album.)

The early one is a Sub Pop showcase at Neumo's, sponsored, of course, by 107.7 "The End", and the later show at the Sunset Tavern features a record release for new psych monsters, Master Musicians of Bukkake, and, direct from Japan, Miminikoto. Miminikoto features Koji Shimura from High Rise, White Heaven and Mainliner fame as well as members of the Broomdusters and Che- SHIZU.

We highly recommend that you go to the Sunset show if you like the crazy, psych side of the spectrum. Or the End show, if you don't.

And we keep forgetting to mention that there is a compilation for the Million Tongues Festival we did in August that features an unreleased track with Kinski and Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers. (You can't get them from us, only from Steve.)

And the Ampbuzz radio show is kicking into high gear, every Monday night (Tuesday morning) from 1 to 3 am (PST), just when you're awake, on 91.3 fm KBCS, Seattle. On the web at www.kbcs.fm It's Chris playing stuff from his record collection.

We start recording our next record for Sub Pop this January and there are 4 compilations coming out in the next few months with unreleased tracks. We'll let you know about them as they happen.

...hehheh ditto,actually just realised i have had this for a while and only listened to it twice. i like what i have heard off of 'alpine static' though,so this gives me hope.

Out of all the Kinski I've heard (which is only their previous LP), I like this the most. Lots of chugga chugga guitar and classic rock riffing.

Also coming this summer is the reissue of our first record SpaceLaunch for Frenchie. We've added our first demo tape with two never before released songs as well as demo versions of a couple things. And a never before released number from the SpaceLaunch sessions that we used to play live all the time. We're reissuing Be Gentle with the Warm Turtle which has been out of print for awhile now too. Both releases will be on our new Intellectual Drunks imprint (co-released with Strange Attractors Audio House). We should have these titles available on tour and they will be available in stores in the middle of August

Do you know if they'll be headlining or opening?

Last time I saw them, they did open for MOB, but my mom knew they guy who was doing their sound. If it's that same guy again, maybe I could sneek my way in.

Last time I saw Kinski, I also played baskettball with the drummer and guitarist/flute player. The guitarist/flute player is so funny!!!

Is it, well, more 'lush' then previous work? I like their sound but I always wish they'd loosen up a bit.

I bought Alpine Static used this weekend...I saw these dudes open for Unwound once and thought it was pretty decent but never investigated...

but yeah anyway this is pretty ragin'! Chuggy! Hawkwind meets QOTSA minus vox? i dunno, something like that, but I likes it!

A CLEAR DAY AND NO MEMORIES is a new multimedia installation, created through the Jack Straw New Media Gallery Residency Program, comprised of multiple 16mm film projections and recordings on vinyl, focusing on the atmospheric and atrophied architecture around Fort Worden and Puget Sound. Taking inspiration from a Wallace Stevens poem of the same name, A CLEAR DAY AND NO MEMORIES presents the viewer with an ever-shifting sense of place - one that is never the same twice. Within the gallery, 16mm films constantly run on looping machines, implicitly guiding the viewer through various environs and monuments. The audio recordings act not as a synchronized soundtrack, but instead become a physical presence within the space redirecting the mood and gaze of the entire installation. By manipulating the complex relationship between film and sound in a way that disregards a traditional or linear narrative, the work contemplates the fluid and evocative nature of memory and place.

Jim Hobbs is an American artist based in London, England. His work utilizes a variety of media including 16mm film, video, installation, site-specific work, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, sound, and photography. Recent interests include the personal and social implications of loss, oblivion, history, memory and the subsequent acts of remembrance/memorialization. His work has been exhibited internationally and he has been the recipient of various awards, grants, and residencies - most recently the British Council Grant for Individual Artists. He currently lectures at the University of Greenwich and for the Slade School of Fine Art.

Kinski are Lucy Atkinson, Chris Martin, Matthew Reid-Schwartz and Barrett Wilke. Their unique evocation of avant-rock is deconstructionist and heady, but also emotive and visceral. NME described Kinski as "like Sabbath in a washing machine during a power surge." They have toured throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and have a lengthy discography, including 3 full length albums released on the seminal record label SubPop.

Hobbs and Kinski, along with Robin Held, Chief Deputy Director, Exhibitions and Collections, Frye Art Museum, will discuss this collaborative project and other aspects of their work via an evening of conversation. The event will take place at Jack Straw Productions and the public is cordially invited to attend.

On the occasion of this exhibition, Hobbs and Kinski have created a limited edition artwork in the form of a 12" gatefold album. The work is adorned with film stills from the installation, and contains two new sound pieces by Kinski and a limited edition silkscreen print by Hobbs.

Sounds like fun. I was wondering what this group had been up to, glad to see it's this.

Kinski Sign to Kill Rock Stars

Good news for people who love high-quality hard rock: Veteran Seattle quartet Kinski have signed to Kill Rock Stars. Their next album, tentatively titled Cosy Moments (it's a P.G. Wodehouse reference), will come out in March 2013, their first since 2007's Down Below It's Chaos.

Long overdue! But I can't wait. (Too bad that report skips over the Hobbs collaboration...)

Such a great band. I recently pulled a bunch of live sets from Free Music Archive and they stand the test of time.

They're still playing tons of shows in Seattle, one of the dwindling benefits of living up here.
Their show with Calvin Johnson and Yonatan Gat a few days ago was a hoot. They seemed severely distressed by the all ages designation and it's impact on having beer/liquor on stage.
