Friedkin had heard their disco version of "Here Comes the Night" and thought the band's current sound would be perfect for his film about, set in the world of gay S&M bars. For their part, the Beach Boys thought the film was a car movie. It was only when the Beach Boys delivered their completed soundtrack that the nature of the misunderstanding became clear. The album wound up being released as _Keepin' the Summer Alive_.
