^^^^^ read that originally as 'sharting on some of the keys' and wondering how the hell it is you type .

fuuuck i just read this entire thread

werner herzomg (samosa gibreel), Sunday, 8 August 2010 07:37 (fifteen years ago)

some of my thoughts on this album

-some good rap songs on it, but also a lot of crit-bait and wacky left turns that probably seemed like really wild ideas at the time but aren't really that interesting to listen to. the pitfalls of forcing that kind of wild creative spontaneity are put on display here. like prose with really outré adjectives that is not really fundamentally interesting

-some comment upthread about it being "so musical" reminds me of how i felt about fishscale when it came out. but fischscale is way better. and blaqkout is waaaaaay better. i get that this is the perennial surprisingly fresh old man rap album and those are the only rap albums that get rated these days, but it's not up to par with those of previous years & while i hope people do really love and get pleasure out of this album, a lot of what i have read feels forced.

-deeply feeling rtc's point about "lingering air of inconsequence."

-the yelawolf verse is by far the best rapping on the entire album. and yeah, tim is totally otm about trunk muzik being album of the year.

oh for god's sake.

i like this album cuz it sounds fresh sonically, and finds Big Boi still at the top of his game lyrically. not a mind blowing concept there. culdn't give a fuck if he's applying for medicare yet.

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Sunday, 8 August 2010 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

deeply feeling rtc's point about "lingering air of inconsequence."

in fairness though don't all albums now have a "lingering air of inconsequence"? serious q.

Interested to know what moments in particular you're talking about here?

Ever since Merriweather Post Pavilion dropped and made every future album ever inconsequential... yes, of course.

O_O

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Sunday, 8 August 2010 17:26 (fifteen years ago)

that one song where some i think eastern european national anthem is sampled? generally love kast wacky left turns though

oh for god's sake.

i guess that was a dickish thing to say. there's a different between an album's selling point and it's talking points and so far the talking points are not getting to what i find good about this album

werner herzomg (samosa gibreel), Sunday, 8 August 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

"general patton" just sounds like dipset circa "get em girls". u mostly otm tho.

"mc hammer" (f/ mc hammer) (The Reverend), Sunday, 8 August 2010 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

wait whut did i say about general patton?

werner herzomg (samosa gibreel), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

"mc hammer" (f/ mc hammer) (The Reverend), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:58 (fifteen years ago)

lol, that is an opera chorus from Verdi's "Aida"

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

like, it's in the liner notes and everything

oh right, no one buys CDs anymore

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

i just assumed that was the song he was refering to. sounded like opera to me. ¯\(°_o)/¯

at any rate, the last time i could ~afford~ to buy cds was more than two years ago

"mc hammer" (f/ mc hammer) (The Reverend), Monday, 9 August 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

wasn't lolling at you, Rev!

big boi's next album should be all beats over Die Fledermaus...

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Monday, 9 August 2010 20:34 (fifteen years ago)

I think Hungary's national anthem is actually called "You Ain't No DJ."

President Keyes, Monday, 9 August 2010 21:57 (fifteen years ago)

itt samosa gibreel's inability to distinguish verdi from eastern european national anthems exposed

ya'll really schooled me hard

to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 01:29 (fifteen years ago)

also: have people not heard the "david blaine" joke before? or is it just funny that they told it on a rap album? patrice o'neal says it in some youtube i watched recently but have been hearing it irl forever alongside rusty trombone, spiderman, etc.

to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 01:44 (fifteen years ago)

thank you for schooling me hard in patrice o'neal youtube videos

/\/K/\/\, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 02:10 (fifteen years ago)

the part that is embarrassing for you is that the sample is credited in the liner notes

people are for loving (HI DERE), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:54 (fifteen years ago)

so either you could have looked it up yourself or you stole the album, and either way it's nagl when you're trying to DROP SCIENCE on something to out yourself as being kind of a big dummy

people are for loving (HI DERE), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

but he'll fuck the mohawk off yo head

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:56 (fifteen years ago)

getting all moralist about ppl downloading is nagl itself, dan

The Reverend, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:59 (fifteen years ago)

also, even legal dls don't usually come w/ liner notes

The Reverend, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 04:01 (fifteen years ago)

some do. Itunes has included em with quite a few of my purchases of newer albums

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

what San Te said

people are for loving (HI DERE), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

"usually"

The Reverend, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

i am kind of like a big dummy

would rather get nagged about something on ilx than buy & read liner notes of an album i'm not that into ;) <3

NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE GUCCI (deej), Saturday, 14 August 2010 23:29 (fifteen years ago)

NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE GUCCI (deej), Saturday, 14 August 2010 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

be my anchor baby (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 15 August 2010 03:44 (fifteen years ago)

"fo yo sorrows" is totally awkward and meh

The Reverend, Sunday, 15 August 2010 04:15 (fifteen years ago)

there really aren't many, if any tracks I skip on this album.

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Sunday, 15 August 2010 04:16 (fifteen years ago)

rev is trippin

be my anchor baby (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 15 August 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

This hasn't left my car stereo for a month now. I can't identify any weak/skippable tracks.

"tangerine" is such a secrete banger

dayo reckoning (The Reverend), Saturday, 11 September 2010 02:11 (fifteen years ago)

best song on the album imo

call all destroyer, Saturday, 11 September 2010 02:13 (fifteen years ago)

Before I bought a physical copy I assumed the guitar lick was sampled. Now I'm hoping someone else samples it.

Also: my favorite T.I. guest verse in months.
