I'm desperately hoping my allergy meds kick in so I can stop sniffling and get to sleep.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

You need something bubblier than seltzer, markers -- like "Follow Us."

balls and adieu (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:19 (fifteen years ago)

I love you, whiney. Be my Dre.

balls and adieu (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:20 (fifteen years ago)

"a couple" of drinks

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:22 (fifteen years ago)

well, this is too late, but here's an attempt at a sort-of answer?

take something like "rosa parks," which got a fair amount of attention (I assume, I wasn't plugged in to rap when it came out) - big boi's verse is very good, but it's sort of a standard good Big Boi verse, lots of braggadocio, but nothing that critics wouldn't have heard before. Andre's is a whole meditation on his current stardom and his fears of becoming stale and his disappointment with, yet understanding of those that do (btw this verse totally depresses me when I listen to it now). And this isn't really something you get all the time in hit rap songs. So obviously critics might focus on the member who's more prone to self-examination and is clearly fixed upon establishing himself as a unique artist, not a flash-in-the-pan (not to say Big Boi isn't, Andre just makes it more overt).

though i feel like if big boi hadn't been there, andre would have received a ton less critical attention, because one of the things about outkast was the ability to appeal to a massively varied audience, which gets simplified bridging the street vs intellectual divide, and since everyone loves binaries big boi and andre get to represent those two poles. and without the partner to contrast with maybe andre would get about the same level of critical attention as say MF Doom. but i could just be pulling things out of my ass here, i dunno.

"the English sweat" (a new disease) (clotpoll), Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:24 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know "Crumblin' Erb" and "Elevators" already showed BB's ruminative side.

balls and adieu (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:28 (fifteen years ago)

*I don't know:

balls and adieu (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:29 (fifteen years ago)

i posted this on one of the other threads, but i'm really curious as to what the production dynamic was like between dre & big boi -- i didn't realize until recently that they did so many of their own beats, i've never really read much about what that was like between them

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 03:39 (fifteen years ago)

did what I've been doing every Friday when possible for as long as I can remember: watched ESPN's Friday Night Fights

multitasked with some gif posting & made a peach daiquiri with a really delicious fresh peach

krippendorf's trife (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:25 (fifteen years ago)

I went to the mall with my mom and my younger brother.

Then I watched the Eskimos not go 0-5 this season.

I'm actually probably going to go to bed now.

But I'm going to my girlfriend's cabin tomorrow morning, so that redeems tonight, right?

altered boners (rennavate), Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:29 (fifteen years ago)

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:35 (fifteen years ago)

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

I think I'm Big Bird, Harold Hooper (crüt), Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

I pretty much never drink -- have made it to 23 without ever being drunk

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:38 (fifteen years ago)

markers make

krippendorf's trife (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:38 (fifteen years ago)

have had, like, half a bottle of corona and maybe like a small amount of champagne once or twice in the past five years iirc

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:39 (fifteen years ago)

drinking is fun imo

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:40 (fifteen years ago)

thread turned into 'your boring friday night' pretty fast

iatee, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

for the record corona probably gave you a horrible idea of what beer tastes like

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

also j0rdan otm but getting woo omg trashed overrated

iatee, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

the corona was the worst

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:42 (fifteen years ago)

well getting woo omg trashed is kinda fun once in a while if you're with a lot of bros

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:42 (fifteen years ago)

yeah don't drink corona ever again

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:42 (fifteen years ago)

Getting trashed is awesome, it's recovering from getting trashed that blows.

Mordy, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

or you could save your money and brain cells and do cool things with them

krippendorf's trife (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

getting drunk is often less inexpensive and a better use of brain cells than going to an indie rock concert

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:44 (fifteen years ago)

i'm just sayin

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

i respect people who don't drink

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

the best thing someone's said to me when I told them I don't drink was something like "Are your parents alcoholics?"

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:46 (fifteen years ago)

this was someone I had just met

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:46 (fifteen years ago)

that's pretty legit tho

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:46 (fifteen years ago)

you think that's a valid thing to ask someone you just met?

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:47 (fifteen years ago)

I def respect them more than I respeect the people who correlate how much they had last night with how many drinks they had last night. xp

ha, no not really

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:47 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't care & thought it was hilarious, but still

markers, Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:48 (fifteen years ago)

Corona is terrible.

I love beer, but I'm not a huge fan of getting trashed. Usually after like three or four pints I'm like, "Yeah, I'm good."

altered boners (rennavate), Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:49 (fifteen years ago)

getting trashed is fun 3 or 4 times a year

J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 July 2010 04:51 (fifteen years ago)

mornings eventually grind you down tho
