I don't know why I keep coming back to this thread, other than to remind myself that ten years from now, next time they tour the US, I need to go see them.

Daft Punk was so good that I can't even remember what my previous favourite show ever was. It's so good, you'll happily lose your memory.

pinder, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 05:50 (sixteen years ago) link

That was one of the single best things I've ever seen.

Quinn Omori, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 06:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Gaaaaaaaaaaawd.
Are there any negative comments on this thread?

They're playing here in Chicago in a few days, and of course I'm going to be out-of-town, GAWD!

Z S, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 06:07 (sixteen years ago) link

biggest negative comment i had was all the douchetards wearing Daft Punk shirts to the concert.

jaxon, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 06:25 (sixteen years ago) link

this thread has me so pumped for toronto, in a week. also relieved in that i'm dragging some friends along who are daft-curious at best, and i convinced them to shell out $$.

negotiable, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 06:41 (sixteen years ago) link

A friend that I dragged to the show that I had talked into it was pretty sour before the show, hating the DJs etc. He mostly wanted to see the Rapture. His first comment after the show was like "OKAY MAN SO WHICH DAFT PUNK ALBUMS DO I BUY TOMORROW MORNING FIRST THING"

Clay, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 06:43 (sixteen years ago) link

hahaha GOOD. all good portents. still, i will buy back-up drukgs. migod i can't wait now. tec-nol-o-gic bowm bowm bowm bowm ba-bowm bowm bowm tss...

Or when you could have come over to Dublin, seen the gig and generally gone on a mad one... Ah well :)

Daft ruled Lollapalooza, as if there was any doubt. I think I also saw Bangalter afterwards at a party, but can't be completely sure.

that's awesome that you got to see it from outside the fence, deej. we showed up right at the end of satellite party and made it to probably 25 people back from the front of the stage. it was pretty freakin crowded by the end of the set, as i guess more people tried to push into that area. it was great being so close though, even if you could only really bob your head at that point. also big ups to todd for the rides after the show.

Keyspan Park is totally unsheltered, right?

Trying to decide whether to bring my ungainly umbrella tonight, given the forecast...

I would like to further add to the (very unanimous - for a reason) opinion that Daft Punk is a live experience (I was at the Toronto show) that one rarely is able to find. It was truly an experience, and very much a spectacle rather than a concert, and that's just alright by me. And yes, heh, I was able to see the real Thomas Bangalter too.

mehlt, Sunday, 12 August 2007 17:15 (sixteen years ago) link

i hadn't noticed that there are mp3s from the bercy concert all over the place - not as good a recording as those from last year, but pretty good all the same.

I want to know if people frequenting this thread know that Tony Wilson has died and who he was. Thanx

Bimble, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I have an original pressing of the New Order "Ceremony" 7", does that count?

Steve Shasta, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:12 (sixteen years ago) link

wtf Bimble. I want to know if your comment has a point, because outside of some sort of sociological experiment in thread-shitting I'm at a loss here.

I had a dream last night that Daft Punk played a free show in the Union Square subway station last night. It ruled. Unfortunately all they played was "Love Train" and it was only a dream.

jonathan - stl, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:07 (sixteen years ago) link

I guess I feel asleep with that eHarmony commercial on.

jonathan - stl, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I loved how it started quite understated with Robot Rock, just white lights nothing fancy. I was kind of disappointed already and then bam bam bam bam it just kept getting better and better with new effects. Truly awesome.

Bimble, do you know who merv griffin is you shallow callous pathetic mote?

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 07:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Coney show was pretty much the highlight of my year…

I had a job in the '90s where I could pretty much go to any show in NYC I wanted to for free, and I ended up, as it was the Chems/Prodigy/Fatboy "dance music is taking over" era, going to a lot of those kind of shows. So, apart from the fact that Discovery is one of my favorite rekkids evah, Thursday night reminded me of how much I missed dance to music that I really like at really loud volumes…

and many of the people there, I suspect, were very much on board for the "dance music is taking over" era, or maybe they were aging ravers… a lot of the energy was similar to any kind of nostalgia-based, good ole days kind of rock show…

MRZBW, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 22:51 (sixteen years ago) link

From that pfork article:
"The Billboard article also let us in on a little secret: those dudes in Kanye's "Stronger" video aren't, as previously reported, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, but, rather, the actors from Electroma. Not quite "two bums in helmets," but still, tricky."

Maybe they're at home or in the audience during "their" shows too.

van smack, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I had been wondering about that myself. Why tour when you don't have to?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:01 (sixteen years ago) link

that would be rad. some residents shit.
