rosklide review, page 3 i think

the boy boy young messi (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 02:47 (fifteen years ago)

thx--i'm a little bit done with that sentiment being party line on the nat'l. at least on the new record i hear more blackened humor than anything.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 July 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it almost seemed like a concession of sorts, like you HAVE to criticize them in that way if you're going to criticize them at all -- i find the end of that statement (about melodies) to be much more compelling, cuz i think that's mostly where they fail (not melodies specifically but just as a band playing music)

the boy boy young messi (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

yeah--i think they're solid melodically but the intentional wallpapery quality of their music takes some time to get with

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 July 2010 03:01 (fifteen years ago)

the bitterness/sadness/whininess of titus andronicus feels more earned & appropriate seeing as he's coming from the point of view of a mid 20 year old being sort of crushed by the pressure and anxiety of being that age (while still also touching on getting drunk and fucked up with friends cuz you can still do that) whereas the national dude is singing for like, sad ad execs and investment bankers...

i get the distinction, but don't see how the former is more earned & appropriate.

good news if you wear cargo shorts (contenderizer), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 03:23 (fifteen years ago)

yeah idk -- i'm prob just biased because i'm that age and i identify with it more

the boy boy young messi (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 03:25 (fifteen years ago)

You'd be surprised how young a lot of investment bankers are.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 04:05 (fifteen years ago)

I get the distinction too but I don't think the National have moved on from that vantage point yet - I get the feeling that now they're in their early 30s and expected things to change but are still being crushed by the pressure & anxiety of things not getting any better despite that being the common wisdom. and they're still getting drunk and fucked up w/ friends. not sure how ad execs and ibankers play into this dynamic at all.

for 10+ years i've been able to visit the PF front page without fear of some bullshit audio/video popping up. that ended today when i was immediately redirected to blaring streaming footage of their festival that woke up my kid. thanks, guys!

so I got all excited about a Tiga Remix of "Dance Yrself Clean" only to find no track below the description. Plus the Prefix link is to a Tiga remix of "I Can Change." what gives?

"Dance Yrself Clean", the opening track from LCD Soundsystem's dazzling BNM'd third effort This Is Happening, starts quiet and erupts into a four-alarm floor-filler. For this remix, Montreal-based producer Tiga skips the quiet stuff and gets down to business-- and business is a bangin' jam.

da croupier, Thursday, 29 July 2010 13:56 (fifteen years ago)

Did Larry Fitzmaurice hear this bangin' jam before writing about it?

sweet MIA Flash ad floating in the bottom lefthand corner of the screen on the Prefix site

markers, Thursday, 29 July 2010 13:59 (fifteen years ago)

The MIA flash ad prevented me from listening to this song four times.

But it is a "Dance Yrself Clean" remix.

Yeah, it is "Dance Yrself Clean". Looks like it's been fixed all round now, apart from the Soundcloud page, which has it as "I Can't Change". On the scale of Pitchfork dumbness, this is pretty low. About a 2.3 I'd say.

Position Position, Thursday, 29 July 2010 16:11 (fifteen years ago)

If you ask me, 2.3 also sounds about right for an accurate rating of the new LCD Soundsystem album.

Ha, I was uninterested to hear a remix of "I Can Change" that I didn't actually listen to the mislabeled track. Weird they didn't post the track itself though, just a "via prefix" link

If ya hot, it make ya cold

Apropos of nothing, is "Larry Fitzmaurice" the dude's real name? Sounds like an early '80s electro DJ.

three weeks pass...

So I liked today's Arab Strap reissue review (x2):

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14566-the-week-never-starts-round-here-deluxe-edition-philophobia-deluxe-edition

But, as usual, the originals have been taken off the site.

-and-

http://web.archive.org/web/20010117063400/www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/a/arab-strap/philophobia.shtml

Looks like the first album got a ratings boost, while the second suffered a bit.

I assume that by "single-minded focus on Weezer," you mean that I posted in one other Weezer thread earlier this week?

Okay then!
