The new Dawnbringer album (feat. Nachtmystium secret weapon Chris Black) is so fucking good, it's ridiculous. Traditional metal album of the year, by a mile.

Bruni has been raving to me about it. I need to hear that.

The new Zoroaster is fucking awesome. What other groups sound like this? Sort of heavy psych influenced, slightly shoey biker metal? I guess there's a crossover between some stoner bands like Kyuss and other Savanah bands and some doomers like Goat Snake. It's weird listening to a 'metal' group and thinking what does this remind me of? Oh yeah, Ride.

Titan are readying a new album for Relapse as well.

I was wondering if Titan was actually gonna sign with Relapse. I met one of those dudes at the High on Fire/Priestess/Bison show and he was telling me about the new album - which was awesome news, because I loved the debut - but the Relapse deal was a vague possibility at that point.

Yeah, I love that four track album from a few years back.

Got this yesterday: Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of Brooklyn, NY’s TITAN.

TITAN, who have previously released material on Paradigms and Tee Pee Records, have recently completed work on a brand new full-length album titled Sweet Dreams. Sweet Dreams was recorded at Translator Audio in Brooklyn with engineer Brendan Tobin (MADE OUT OF BABIES, RED SPAROWES). An October 12th release date has been set and the album is available for pre-order at this location.

TITAN’s Josh Anzano commented on the new album; “"Sweet Dreams" has been the culmination of major urges welling up inside all of us to be a bit faster, a bit harder, a bit trippier and generally more aggro in our approach to writing, jamming out, and conceptualizing the songs and record as a whole. It's a lot tighter, but it's also a lot looser. Does anyone have any idea what kind of numbers smaller metal records do? Like what could something like, say, the new Ludicra expect to pull off?

Only the label could give you the actual answers because none of the methods for sales reporting (soundscans etc) are very accurate IMO.

Still, that just seems so incredibly low! I guess I just automatically assume that when people are praising a record on ILM and I see a positive review in a big name place or a positive mention on some decent blogs or whatever that the record is "big," but it's only big in the context of a relatively small community.

Nate how many albums does your band sell?

I remember years ago reading or hearing somewhere that Sick Of It All considered it 'making it big' when one of their major label records sold 20,000 worldwide.

Speaking of metal sales on smaller labels, what's the royalty return for artists like? I'm just gonna assume right off the bat they make the bulk of their dough from touring/merch/day jobs. Do metal labels work on a similar profit split model to the likes of Touch and Go et al?

listening to black breath heavy breathing, one of few metal albums i've bought this year. love it to death, though it ain't a patch on their live show. not an ilm favorite i guess?

i usually don't like the hoarse hc/screamo thing much, but love the total effect on heavy breathing.

Our last album is out of print and our next one isn't out yet. ;)

So basically that means we've been selling NONE. We don't even have shirts right now. I guess we're putting all our effort into the music. Merch is on my list of "things to do" though :)

I forget who it was here who turned me on to Mar de Grises way back when, but I'm forever thankful, and their new album (out in september on Season of Mist), is excellent. The kind of classy Opeth/Katatonia combination that made Draining the Waterheart such a revelation, but with plenty of improvements.

man anybody who likes metallic crust (or crusty metal, I don't know) - midtempo metal with thrashy breaks from the mid-nineties & plenty of "give the bassist a two-bar solo here" moments played by kids just looking to blow snot rockets needs to cop this Foul Stench discography CD. it has been amusing, entertaining, and rocking me for a month now. (it came it 2008 but I just took a chance on it with a big buy-three-get-one-free deal from goregiastic.) pretty trad solos a lot of the time, given the musical context - I don't know, I view these guys as a less grindy precursor to Foetopsy, and it's no secret how I feel about Foetopsy. how do you know if this is a band you might like? gentlemen: the track listing.

in 2007, eleven years after the recordings collected on The Beginning, Foul Stench made an album that indicated where they were at now. I have not heard the album, but I feel its track listing is worth noting -- a band unafraid of growth!

Anyone heard the new Sahg album? I'm halfway through it and pretty taken so far by its Dio-meets-Soundgarden-meets-NWOBHM grandstanding

yeah this is great, you can probly disregard the Soundgarden mention aside from like one or two tracks maybe but I like this a whole lot. In fact I need to hear the whole Grand Magus new one just to have this year's obvious point of comparison at hand
