I know its just bay resident nepotism to a degree but e-40's record being this sprawling celebration of the current bay scene while also being totally great pretty much made me feel like my current infatuation w this scene is totally justified. Especially like, I haven't heard this much grassroots buzz absent media hype for dude's music in ages.

sprawl is right - I love that both records go all over the place. the back-to-back "life's been good to me"/"damn shit is so fucked up right now" 1-2 punch of "All I Need" and "Gotta Get Betta", for example.

these are, like, the best albums that i just cannot get into at all - i can hear how high quality they are and i enjoy them when they're on but i can't find my way into caring about them. no highlights even leap out of the mass of tracks like they did with last year's albums.

i think it's partly tempo (the sounds should all be catnip to me but there's little that's actually FAST, danceable) and partly e-40's character, which isn't really interesting enough to sustain two 20-track albums.

also e-40's voice is actually kinda annoying after a while, guest verses become a relief

i know you're the lex and all, but how about you quit being wrong for a while
