The guys lyrics are completely ridiculous to a fabulous degree and that combined with his serious- self important crooning voice make me occasionally think this band is the funniest band ever.

The drummer has aged so much he looks like my dentist. The guitarist is still kinda cute.
Dave should have reminded these guys that there's no need to wear sunglasses indoors.

Not sure how that Lil B song is less boring than "Barricade," but it's less disgusting than the "Lights" video. Haven't heard anything as good as "Mammoth" or the best songs off the debut.

rong. anticipation is building. matador shipped more than two hundred copies of this disc to record stores nationwide, to meet the heavy demand.

the single that got reviewed on TSJ really was atrocious. it's like interpol thought 'hmm what was the one thing that made us listenable - oh right the hooks. well let's get rid of that too.'

The weakest Interpol-album so far, but I still like this band, a 6,5 should be reasonable

isn't Dave Pajo in Interpol now? Is he on the album? Good move if so.
― the tune is space, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 16:48 (thirteen years ago) link
skimming Wikipedia . . .
Carlos D. played bass on the record:
It was announced that Interpol's fourth album will be self-titled and will be released sometime in mid-September.[14] It will be bassist Carlos D.'s last effort with Interpol.
On Pajo:
In early June 2010, the musicians who will play with Interpol on live dates were announced to be David Pajo (formerly of Slint and many other bands) on bass and Brandon Curtis of The Secret Machines on keyboards and vocals.
― markers, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 17:03 (thirteen years ago) link

The album art for their first two records was appropriate and functional, but art for the past two records seriously veers into some smh territory.
To be fair, the last two have had some gems. I wish more of their recent output would mimic the closing tracks on the new one, and a handful from the one before. All of the good qualities of post-Antics Interpol and what few there are of Banks' (or Julian Plenti, whatever the hell he wants to be called) solo material.

I actually really like this one, which is more than I can really say for Antics or the last one. Personally, I'd rate them about like this:
Turn On the Bright Lights - 9.3 (still one of my favorite albums of last decade, questionable lyrics and all)Antics - 7.2 (was a huge disappointment at the time, but it has grown on me a bit)Our Love to Admire - 6.8 (this never really clicked with me at all)Interpol - 8.0ish (still early goings, don't see it really climbing a whole lot higher though)

Yeah the OLTA cover was a real 'oh shit' moment. Especially if you thought that the Interpol artwork /website/ merch in general around the time of 2002 was *the best* you had ever seen by a band in the modern era. Way classier and cooler than The Strokes at the time. *Man* i miss old Interpol.
― piscesx, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 20:51 (thirteen years ago) link
Are their sensibilities so different? All I hear different about this record versus the first two is that this one has less hooks and we're all older.

incredibly depressing interview with Carlos from last October that I just heard last night. goes in depth about the making of the s/t record and how he lost his mind and left the band. apparently he decided to leave, then recorded all of his bass and keyboard parts and gave them to the engineer, and never saw the band again. so the s/t record is vastly different than what it was "supposed to be"... thank goodness, I love the first half of this record so much, "Summer Well" is as good as anything on Antics. Interpol trying to go symphonic was bad news. Carlos says their goal going into the s/t record was to "make our Kid A."
