I'm not sure that Chris would've had a say in what he performed; dude was more than likely handed a script and told to learn the choreography and roll with it.

doubtful, you don't just tell someone "btw learn all the moves to three iconic michael jackson routines of our choosing".

yeah pulling the "he's a pop star, he's probably just following orders" thing is pointless. regardless of whose idea it was to perform "Man In The Mirror," he was aware of the subtext of it all well before he stepped onstage and shed a tear.

well tbf I think a large reason why this is still a big problem is because he is completely blind to the subtext of it all

I think it's great song honestly, could actually be my favorite single of his ever. Would be even better without Tyga & Kevin McCall... and I like "No Bullshit" from that mixtape as well. Sticking to the core R&B format is really the only way he'll make a "comeback," Grafitti was garbage (besides "Sing Like Me,"), "Deuces" is exactly what he should be doing(though I guess in the context of him and Rihanna's relationship, the song is kind of gross and those that view everything he does through that lens will continue to view him as an asshole but that's neither here nor there).

again I was never a big fan of his but his R&B joints like this, "sing like me," "take you down," were always his strong suit to me.

i don't think i ever payed much attention to the production on "forever" until it came on just now, and damn, i know i hated on it when it came out, i mean the tune is still kinda dippy and it's certainly not if cb has lost any of his offputting d-baggy quality since this dropped, but damn, this song is kind of brilliant?

it's amazing

i think my main problem with it is it sounds just a bit too prom-ready. it has the same kind of ersatz score-the-moment quality that "i gotta feeling" and "empire state of mind" have. all of those songs are simultaneously brilliant and terrible.

yeah I came around to "Forever" after like a year too, still things I dislike about it but it definitely is one of the really good beats Polow's done since his output started to decline

"Forever" is decent enough; I don't hate it but I don't love it (partially because Ne-Yo's "Closer" is much more my platonic ideal when it comes to R&B house)
