Sorry I missed your show Jordan
― John Justen, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 21:36 (eighteen years ago)
woah this is like the Internet in HD
i went to vamp handz on sunday night at the entry cuz the drummer in the band i'm in is playing with to kill a petty bourgeoise now too and i hadn't seen him yet...
heatdeth -- yet another andrew broder project -- opened up, they were pretty good, formless noise like cluster or something.
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 21:53 (eighteen years ago)
hey wow, in my browser this thread has no bottom menu bar. THREAD OF MYSTERY.
How do people feel about Gay Witch Abortion? My current TC <3<3<3
― John Justen, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:46 (eighteen years ago)
for out of town peeps, i am asking about Gay Witch Abortion the band, not the political stance, which i am 100% behind.
― John Justen, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:47 (eighteen years ago)
I saw a bit of them, thought it was good...I'm pretty much pro-anything w/Shaun Walker on drums, he's great....although..i would say that more members wouldn't hurt, i'm getting a little tired of the 2 man thing.
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:52 (eighteen years ago)
(jon did you ever get the yoleus record? i haven't yet but i know it's out)
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:53 (eighteen years ago)
i just remembered that i ordered a cd from fratzke's band, like, months ago and never got it.
i played at the nomad a few weeks ago and it was totes awesome.
― Jordan, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:56 (eighteen years ago)
no, i've been really lazy w/new stuff lately, outside of emusic. also, i just got my vinyl back from the dude who had it on loan, so i've been sifting through that, which is taking up much listening time.
― John Justen, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:57 (eighteen years ago)
yeah sorry i didn't go jordan. nomad is nice. you guys seem to be doing okay in mpls though, at least enough to make it worth the trip?
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:58 (eighteen years ago)
jordan, i have no idea what yer bands name is.
― John Justen, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 22:59 (eighteen years ago)
bold
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 23 January 2008 23:05 (eighteen years ago)
boooold
yeah, there was some good press (city pages and onion picks, and a radio thing) so we got a great crowd. also we provided free food, which never hurts.
john, this is my band.
― Jordan, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

That Damo Suzuki show *was* awesome, as are Faggott, though M@tt's description of them is pretty much otm.
Did that Jerry Jeff Walker at the zoo show already happen? rats.
― BigLurks, Monday, 18 August 2008 19:09 (seventeen years ago)
Faggott are better to read about than see live because you only have to READ about that dude's butthole rather than SEE it.

Er I mean Pierced Arrows. Man, does a drummer change really necessitate a name change?
Everyone was dancing and I got really sweaty and sprayed with booze and Toody Cole is so nice and then we went to our pal KG's place in St. Paul and drank vodka and had to chase it with cookies because there was nothing else WOOT and then we drove all the way back to Mankato HI DERE GOOD MORNING the end

Foo Fighters "Sonic Highway" documentary series on HBO
Back to thread, I recall loving that Man Sized Action"five story Garage' - mining that Bob Mould guitar sound? Maybe they did it first?

significant old school mpls post punk news! (rifle sport is todd trainer of shellac's old band if you are unfamiliar)
Rifle SportYesterday at 9:54am · One year after we recorded Voice of Reason at Blackberry Way, we went back to the studio to record a second album. It was never released and the multitrack and master tapes are long gone as far as we know. No idea what happened to them. But Terry Katzman had a cassette of roughs and possibly final mixes, which he handed off to me last night and I'm currently digitizing.Hoping to do some sort of release of it if it all turns out well. Some very cool and uncharacteristic Rifle Sport tunes. So far the recording sounds excellent.

also wasn't there a pre-Commandos, pre-Suburbs band called the X-Boys that featured Chan Poling, Osgood and some other early mpls punk/new wavers?

M@tt, actually X-Boys came after both had broken up, I believe. (Hence the "Ex" Boys I think, although they used to consume a ton of Special Export!)
It's all 60s/70s rawk covers. They used to play The Uptown regularly, and later The Eagles in Seward. And recently at a KFAI benefit at the Turf:

It's been a long time since I've been in the cities without a show of my own to play, so I'd love to know if there are any hot restaurants or anything I/we should check out. How's that Surly brewpub?

Saw them last night in a tiny club in Chicago. Between being featured on Twin Peaks and opening for Jenny Lewis, looks like they're getting bigger. Also getting more 60s garage/pop as they grow. Great live show.

Since the modern radio message board disappeared (or went underground?) it's hard to find out about local music from a source that's not some strib-affiliated bullshit. This seems okay https://swhenever.com/
