Avoid RPLA though, I just played those youtubes and fucking hell, horrible cult tribute stuff (and i like The Cult). I wasnt reading kerrang when the controversy started but people were still talking about it in the mag etc for years after, but I had no idea what they sounded like. And the answer is - AWFUL!

Hey Adrien, how did you know the Yakuza was going to get such a high score from me? Did the editors tell you, or did you just assume?

Ah, that was your review! Well, it'll sell at least one copy for the band.

Profound Lore is honored to announce that we will be releasing the new full-length album from Pacific Northwest dark metal band AGALLOCH.Profound Lore and Agalloch already have a history that goes as far back to the label’s beginnings when we released the original vinyl versions of “Pale Folklore” and “The Mantle” respectively. The band are currently in intense preparation to enter the studio in their hometown of Portland, Oregon and will be spending the entire months of June and July recording the much-anticipated follow-up to 2006’s “Ashes Against The Grain”. There is currently no concrete release date to be announced yet. But in time, said details will eventually be revealed.

Just bought the new Nightbringer and Bathory's Under The Sign Of The Black Mark, the latter for a little bit of much-needed perspective.

Well, I'd had the album for quite some time and have been so blown away by it, I figured the dB review couldn't be anything but glowing. It's one of my faves of the year so far, and I'm glad I was able to do a full-page piece on the band. They deserve it.

fuckin' love Agalloch.

so I'm listening to this thing by Zombie Death Stench, The Redeadening - it's an attempt to fuse Goblin/Zombi-style giallo synth jams with beery rockin'-style death metal. They do the synth side better than the death side imo but it's totally worth investigating, v. enjoyable listen.

so Zombi Death Stench then?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 18:00 (sixteen years ago)
I think that is why the word "Zombie" is in their name, yes.

So have any of you Pacific Northwwest dudes heard Christian Mistress? Their new six song CD (on 20 Buck Spin) is knocking me out. Dead-on, slightly ramshackle but earnest NWOBHM (think Girlschool and Tank) with a killer female vocalist who songs in a raspy, dusky voice that gives it a really unique touch. Actually she reminds me of Rough Cutt's Paul Shortino, he sung the same way. Anyway, they have no MySpace, but a track can be heard here:

Just came back from The Dillinger Escape Plan @ Het Bolwerk, Sneek (NL). Man, they really tore up the place. In fact, I can't sleep now, still on a rush...

Hey guys I'm at Scion music conference typing on an iPhone so bear with me.
1). Christian Mistress rules. Great friends. Xtine has sung a Witch Mountain tune live with us before Uta got involved. You can catch CM live at my next Fall into Darkness fest in Oct.2) Aerial Ruin is Erik Moggridge (ex-Old Grandad, current Sub Arachnoid Space). It's gorgeos stuff & he opened last year's Fall into Darkness.3) I can get you a DVD track listing if you email me.
Cheers everyone!

Decrepit Birth's Polarity has some pretty stellar tech death on it, but man, the production is incredibly distracting. The drums sound like crap.
― X-Wing fighter in hand, "Godzilla" cranked on the stereo (J3ff T.), Thursday, 17 June 2010 19:12 (sixteen years ago)
I haven't heard that one yet. The new Kataklysm, though, is surprisingly good. Sounds like the swagger of that Ex Deo album rubbed off on the band.
― A. Begrand, Thursday, 17 June 2010 19:33 (sixteen years ago)
awww, that's a bummer about the new decrepit birth. loved the last one.
― original bgm, Thursday, 17 June 2010 20:42 (sixteen years ago)
I liked the last Decrepit Birth album, too, and will hold on to my optimism about the new one until/unless I determine experimentally that it sounds like crap to me, too.
― glenn mcdonald, Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:47 (sixteen years ago)
that's a good way to be.

I'm not saying the music is crap. The music is excellent. The production is just crap.

man, "Stagnant Pond" by Ludicra is one of my songs of the year. just perfect. I need to hunker down and listen to the whole record, though. still don't think I've made it through, but that's mostly because I haven't been doing that with many records lately
― ksh, Saturday, 19 June 2010 16:04 (sixteen years ago)
it's just ridiculous how good it is
No argument here. You see the exclusive live Fall into Darkness version on Youtube?
― Nate Carson, Saturday, 19 June 2010 19:25 (sixteen years ago)
Got my Fall Into Darkness DVD in the mail today - copy #5! Can't wait to get a chance to crank it up; sadly, it'll probably be a week or so as my Dad just arrived for a visit and he's not really much of a metal fan.
― EZ Snappin, Saturday, 19 June 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)
Anyone else going to see the Big Four live at the cinema next Tuesday? I just found out about it this evening, looks like it could be a fun night rocking out in a comfortable chair.

I enjoyed both Melvins and Isis Friday night, surprising myself. Full review on the Voice website tomorrow.
― Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Sunday, 20 June 2010 19:04 (sixteen years ago)
Isis were definitely better than when I saw them circa panopticon but I just find their quiet/loud material from the last few years a little formulaic and too samey for me to really get into in a live setting. Not bad, just nothing I would care to see again.
Not saying their older loud/LOUD material is any less formulaic. It's just more to my liking.
Loved the way the melvins set never let up. The first track off of lysol they closed with was crushing.

Btw, nothing new, but I'm listening to witchcraft's alchemist record from a few years ago and actually just said, "man, this is so fuckin good" to myself, hah. This record and the new cathedral just nail the psych/metal/hard rock sound.
