uppers epilepsy sh@kedown (The Reverend), Saturday, 19 June 2010 03:07 (fifteen years ago)

glad!

call all destroyer, Saturday, 19 June 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

still tempted to see them live but I've looked at parts of their performances on YouTube, and I feel like there's the strong possibility their live show will be hella embarassing

ksh, Saturday, 19 June 2010 03:22 (fifteen years ago)

no. it's hella awesome. you just need to ditch the self-consciousness and get really into it.

when they opened for yeasayer, the first five-ten rows were freaking out along with them and having a fucking BLAST and the rest of the crowd was skeptically being embarrassed for everyone involved.

I'll give you one guess which of us had more fun.

Alex in Montreal, Saturday, 19 June 2010 11:47 (fifteen years ago)

ok Alex, you've convinced me to probably buy a ticket

ksh, Saturday, 19 June 2010 13:25 (fifteen years ago)

The DC show sold out so quick I couldn't get a ticket

curmudgeon, Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

yo alex they're playing with die antwoord for pop, eh?

samosa gibreel, Sunday, 20 June 2010 05:19 (fifteen years ago)

I think my early faves are "Infinite Guitars" and "Rill Rill" and maybe "Crown on the Ground".

I like every song on this album but "rill rill"

ke$ha in the rye (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 June 2010 06:03 (fifteen years ago)

i feel since last summer of the internet putting up anything that "evokes summer," this year there's now so much of the stuff that quality control has gone to shit, and "rill rill" is the one shining beacon of truth and real summer pop

samosa gibreel, Sunday, 20 June 2010 06:09 (fifteen years ago)

"rill rill" is the only song on the album that i really like

geremi crossed the ball today (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 June 2010 06:09 (fifteen years ago)

Um...yeah, last I heard, samosa it was w/ die antwoord but then the tour announcement through p4k or whatever had different people listed. unless there are two shows. i'll double check w/ people and get back to you when i'm sober.

Alex in Montreal, Sunday, 20 June 2010 08:00 (fifteen years ago)

Rill rill is like the classic puff daddy definition of not doing anything with a sample and it's annoying to see the indie brigade who dogged puff for "I'll be missing you" get so hard behind it.

ke$ha in the rye (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 June 2010 13:37 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe if puff put a "chillwave/anco/summer" filter on the police?

ke$ha in the rye (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 June 2010 13:38 (fifteen years ago)

you're still pissed about indie brigade doggings from 1997?

da croupier, Sunday, 20 June 2010 13:45 (fifteen years ago)

Rill rill is like the classic puff daddy definition of not doing anything with a sample

what's the sample in rill rill?

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 20 June 2010 13:46 (fifteen years ago)

Funkadelic's 'Can You Get to That'. Sure it's not super-ingenious sampling, but they're completely different songs, so I'm fine with that.

NYC Goatse.cx and Flowers (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 20 June 2010 13:48 (fifteen years ago)

i was not into the demo version of rill rill but i like the final version a lot.

ksh, Sunday, 20 June 2010 14:40 (fifteen years ago)

what a "Rill Rill" ripoff

ksh, Sunday, 20 June 2010 14:41 (fifteen years ago)

Okay I get it, this is seriously good. It's so wrackingly heavy yet so sing-song pop!

Davek (davek_00), Sunday, 20 June 2010 15:34 (fifteen years ago)

Masonic Boom would like this if she's around.

Davek (davek_00), Sunday, 20 June 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

glad so many people are liking this. for some reason, i figured there'd be more backlash than love.

contenderizer, Sunday, 20 June 2010 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

not sure why people need more slow loud, distorted mushmouth (albeit with updated drum programming) in their lives, but I have enough of it from the 90s that I can't really throw stones. I mean "rill rill" is the one shining beacon of truth and real summer pop reads like indie crack talk to me, but you know, people were saying that about Olivia Tremor Control probably.

da croupier, Sunday, 20 June 2010 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

whatever happened to summer pop titans United States Of Electonica?

da croupier, Sunday, 20 June 2010 18:51 (fifteen years ago)

i think people might be more okay with "i'll be missing you" if it was some dope summer pop like "rill rill" instead of a cheap and overly maudlin tribute to a dead dude

geremi crossed the ball today (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 June 2010 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

they do like "rapper's delight," though i still think this "dope summer pop" definition for "rill rill" probably has no validity outside a smattering of dorm rooms and williamsburg.

da croupier, Sunday, 20 June 2010 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

yeah you might be right -- that was personal opinion anyway tho

geremi crossed the ball today (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 June 2010 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

Pfork went over the goddamn top calling every chillwave song "summer music" are we gonna do this every year now?

ke$ha in the rye (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 June 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

Who are these people who have "summer songs." I listen to the same music YEAR ROUND. Just imagining some clown "summering it up" on his porch listening to sleigh bells and drinking a corona in wayfarers makes me want to puke

ke$ha in the rye (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 June 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

this is otm

on the other hand, you can't deny that some music sounds better in the summer! and some in the winter.

kaká flocká flame (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 June 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

not me, I'm bumping Liquid Swords at the beach right now

dr. rakim suess (The Reverend), Sunday, 20 June 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

(or actually bumping Kelis in my bedroom, I should probably get out)
