djkomisch, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

still dour...oh well. carry on all.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

i dunno, if you imagine it all being read by like rupaul or something its kinda fun.

haven't heard this new horizontal ground, but i've been pretty intrigued since their RA podcast

plax (ico), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

cutty, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 22:05 (fifteen years ago)

Also I guess its 2009 but I finally managed to track down a copy of San Soda's purple ep on We Play House and found someone to digitize it for me because i have no record player these days and I like to listen to music when I go for a walk or get the bus. Its very good, really feeling his stuff at the moment theres another good one on a podcast he did but i dont think its released:/

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 22:15 (fifteen years ago)

thanks for the horizontal ground info. 1-4 are all awesome.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

yeah horizontal ground is excellent. seems like there's a slight resurgence of good uk techno recently -- the last few releases on perc trax have been outstanding and completely essential, frozen border which is affiliated with horizontal ground has also been great, and the two new sandwell district records that just came out are some truly "dope" "shit" as they say in the us of a

fuckd and bombd (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 14:39 (fifteen years ago)

am enjoying the new raudive ep on wires. soulless minimal techno with a touch of early 80s darkwave. sounds as if ike yard made a house track

fuckd and bombd (r1o natsume), Thursday, 10 June 2010 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

loving the new dvs1 record as well

fuckd and bombd (r1o natsume), Thursday, 10 June 2010 14:52 (fifteen years ago)

the forward strategy group remix of perc is great! and whoever said 'dour', can't agree. this style of music is very emotional - ina strange way

djkomisch, Thursday, 10 June 2010 16:46 (fifteen years ago)

loving the new art bleek record

cutty, Thursday, 10 June 2010 19:26 (fifteen years ago)

i am digging the art bleek.

anyone heard the Mathew Jonson album? pretty awesome imo.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Saturday, 12 June 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

haven't listened to the album yet but his fact mix/live set is great. i pretty much love everything he does though

like a guttenberg, strong with your mane (another al3x), Saturday, 12 June 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

sounds as if ike yard made a house track

oooh i hope this is as good it sounds in my head!

any thoughts on the recent mole eps? they sounded kinda samey to me and didn't leave much impression on first listen, but for the lost/there's hope took a little while to sink in and ended up being on of my favorite things last year.

Is anyone else enjoying the elektro guzzi stuff? Not heard the full LP yet but what I have heard so far has been excellent.

Neil A.Simpson, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 10:19 (fifteen years ago)

i like the idea of elektro guzzi but the end result kinda left me cold....

djkomisch, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

That's interesting as I don't really like the idea of EG ('band plays minimal/berghain(ish)/etc techno on guitar bass drums') but am finding the end result really worthwhile. I wouldn't say it was warm exactly but it really works for me, maybe not as danceable music but certainly as listenable techno related stuff.

Neil A.Simpson, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 11:32 (fifteen years ago)

ah, interesting, i've seen EG mentioned but never really knew what they did. i've messed around on instruments attempting similar stuff with friends who are into techno, but didn't really have the ambition to get that tight. its tough to be so restrained on guitar/bass/drums. funny that they don't even use a synth; i guess that might take away from the novelty a bit. i'm curious to hear the album.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 17 June 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

another al3x: thanks for mentioning that Mathew Jonson FACT mix, (((d-_-b)))<--me right now

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 17 June 2010 05:07 (fifteen years ago)

strictly should be in the 2009 thread

this remix of Rick Wilhite - Dreams Of Yesterday (Rick's Never Will Forget mix) samples Princes 'Computer Blue'.

Is there another track from recent years that also sampled that section of Computer Blue?

On the new/forthcoming Planet E tip, this new Urban Tribe is niiiiiice:

― matt2, Thursday, June 3, 2010 5:30 AM (2 weeks ago) Bookmark

"niiiiiice" is a bit of an understatement here -- three pristine and gorgeous high-tempo techno trax and one incredible melancholy electro track that sounds like prime black dog -- maybe a few more "i's" are required. stunning ep

wavestation (r1o natsume), Monday, 21 June 2010 15:54 (fifteen years ago)

maybe the black dog reference put you all off slightly; but there's definitely a balil style of melody in "insolitology"

wavestation (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 00:14 (fifteen years ago)

bet ilx user vahid loves this record

wavestation (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

references to prime black dog are some of the least off-putting things I can think of!

Elektro Guzzi podcast at RA - http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=212

Neil A.Simpson, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:12 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't heard EG's podcast yet. I am only judging the project on the first 10" which was OKish. the main reason why i am disappointed is because patrick pulsinger is involved and he did some really amazing music on his own for cheap, r&s etc during the 90s. in EG he is only one of three people, so maybe his voice isn't as loud!

djkomisch, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

ok i've listened to this elektro guzzi album twice today and damn. it is excellent. i guess i'm the type of person who thinks that conceptually this type of thing is a good idea to begin with (no offense to minimal/berghain-style techno) but usually bands like this make records that are a lot less interesting than this one

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 00:44 (fifteen years ago)

elektro guzzi podcast is unbelievable, has anyone seen them play?

In response to your post of pressure by dvs1 (with my personal acknowledgments to a certain mr. klock), that is soooo good. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on a copy soon, either.

new Hood is really ace.

The Portrait of a Lady of BJs (the table is the table), Friday, 9 July 2010 02:14 (fifteen years ago)

and i've been finding it harder to say that about any new techno recently.

The Portrait of a Lady of BJs (the table is the table), Friday, 9 July 2010 02:14 (fifteen years ago)

i'm the complete opposite -- i'm finding techno to be very good lately! some stuff i've been feeling:

forward strategy group - combat codes (rawsome car-crusher techno, sounds as if neubauten ca "yu gung" released a record on downwards. i like how industrial influences are becoming more and more pronounced recently)
darko esser - songs for a real winter
tadeo - series 03
d knox - looking through your eyes
samuel l session - inner city dust (heavy mid 90s the advent style techno)
samuli kempii - kosmos ep
dj bone - my sunday 10"
dino sabatini - daughter of phorcys (the ghosts of old mika vainio midi sequences lurk in these trax)
perc - mandrake

then there's the sandwell district stuff, the last oni ayhun record, the terrance dixon record youtube'd above, the dvs1 thing (the b-side is even better btw), the brendan moeller thing on echochord, the excellent schermate label from italy -- just an overwhelming number of decent records coming out! and i'm sure just as many that i don't know about or have yet to discover. i think house and techno are becoming more distinct from each other again, techno trax are getting ruffer, more overdriven and industrial, taking influence from elsewhere (axis, sahko, fragile records, claude young, surgeon, early aphex, autechre, r&s etc) instead of relying on the same chain reaction/basic channel tropes, tempos are going up as house tempos are going down, you always read big european djs like steffi or tama sumo talking about a definite axis point in their sets where they will switch from house to techno as opposed to mixing it all together as they may've done maybe 2 or 3 or 4 years ago... maybe i'm talking out of my ass here and someone is gonna tell me that all those records are crap i dunno, but i'm honestly pretty excited about techno atm

不合作的方式 (r1o natsume), Friday, 9 July 2010 12:32 (fifteen years ago)

new deepchord is amazing, theyve done a feelgood summer record! Literally the polar opposite of coldest season etc and the first dub techno record ive actually wanted to play out in aeons. BCN dub on constant rotation after coming back form sonar where I heard watery Jamie Jones tech houses version of summer a few too many times
