Speaking of getting fuckin excited, this is out in mere hours! Why Newbury Comics is closed at 1 AM on Nachtmystium release day is \(O_o)/

Who needs Nachtmystium when the Tame Impala album is already out???????

The guys in Tame Impala need it more than anyone.

Also, as much as I love both Big Black and Kraftwerk, this = FAIL:

Big Black: Songs About Fucking

Standout Track: I like that they cover Kraftwerk’s “The Model” on there. I am kind of a dipshit—I was working at a club and my friend was playing the Kraftwerk version of the song and I asked him, “Who is covering Big Black?”

I liked the first Editors single, but its been diminishing returns ever since.

Totally OTM. Bullets was great, everything else I've heard is sorta sucky.

I liked "Munich" an awful lot when it came out, yet everything else was really boring.

Isn't metal + editors = Katatonia?

So this record is not too blackened, it's almost classic rock in places. "No Funeral" is awesome- I can definitely hear the Joy Division/ Editors thing going on there.

Neil S, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 12:55 (thirteen years ago) link

in fact, it's almost Soft Cell or similar 80s gothy synth pop!

WAU what a novel retort, I can't believe I have been shunned publicly on ILX by "DJ Mencap" :'(

I don't care for this new one and didn't really like the last one either (liked it a bit more at the time, but haven't played it much past the first month I had it). Not sure why their combination of things I like doesn't work for me but it doesn't. Such is life.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 15:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I would personally be siked if they did a whole album of stuff like 'Hellish Overdose' off the EP from last year - battering ram tankard metal - seems safe to assume that this album doesn't have anything like that though

Well, fuck. So much for being patient and waiting until release date. Visited/called 9 stores today (six chains and three local indie stores) and no one has it. I'm starting to see why so many people turn to illegal downloading, its not even worth trying to be a loyal customer anymore. Guess its going to be another couple weeks before I can hear this, because on top of being unable to find it, my bank card got skimmed over the weekend and I'm waiting on a replacement so I can't even order it online or even iTunes.

Sorry for the venting, just frustrated.

Hope y'all are enjoying the hell out of it.

Was able to grab a copy at Newbury Comics. If Newbury Comics weren't in the area, I'd pretty much have to use Amazon I guess.

ksh, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I wish there was a Newbury around here, or even an Amoeba, they always seem to do well with stocking good stuff. The local Chicago metal shop when out of business recently and the others are very hit-or-miss when it comes to stocking metal. They all usually have 'em eventually, but rarely on release.

Reckless didn't have it? That's weird.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:09 (thirteen years ago) link

The dude at the Milwaukee Reckless told me it should be coming in later today, or tomorrow.

But I won't really have a chance to make it down there until after the weekend anyway.

Yeah, Newbury tends to do pretty well day-of-release with a lot of metal stuff. Nachtmystium and Watain were both only $9.99 too. I just pray they don't go out of business. That would be bad.

ksh, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Anyway, done with my sob story, back to talking about how awesome these guys are. I've got Instinct Decay cranked to try and make up for it.

ksh, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:21 (thirteen years ago) link

shit jvc! i was going to make a special trip to milwaukee reckless this afternoon for just this reason. i hope they have it by then. maybe i should ask them to put one on hold? is it that in demand or they just hadn't received it yet?

Honestly the dude that answered the phone sounded kind of out of it (I did call like first thing when they opened), but the way he was talking it sounded like they were expecting another shipment sometime today and this was supposed to be in that one. I think he added the "or tomorrow" part to cover ass in case it wasn't there before they closed tonight.

What sort of numbers can a record like this do? I wonder how many Assassins sold. I have no idea how big this band is.

ksh, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:53 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't know, but I do remember seeing Assassins all over B3st Buy when it came out. I'm assuming that presence had to help.

Yeah, seriously. It's just weird for because before I started to really pay attention to metal I had no idea this stuff even existed.

iirc, they had a strategically placed sticker on the cover.

one of the major things record stores could do to stay afloat is to fucking get records on release day. i have no idea why this is so hard.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:23 (thirteen years ago) link

It's getting harder and harder to find Century Media albums in Canadian record stores, let alone at a fair price. Lousy distribution out here.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:30 (thirteen years ago) link

In my experience, it is rarely the fault of the store, but more often the distributor/label. This assumes they ordered copies in the first place. If you want it, preorder it; this usually gets the record store to order more additional copies because they get a "tickle" that there is interest.

ilxor, do u have a good indie store in your town?
cuz my man will sometimes sell me stuff in advance of the release date as long as i keep quiet

For Nick Lachey, Forever Ago (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 19:42 (thirteen years ago) link

I used to buy shit at Best Buy all the time. They had a version of the High On Fire album with three extra tracks for $7.99! I'm supposed to pass that up for what, indie cred? Blow me.

ksh, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 19:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Yep, I frequent Waterloo Records, also End of an Ear and Cheapo Discs every so often as well. There are others but those are my main three haunts. Keeps me busy enough. I've gotten stuff ahead of release date, too -- it's fun!

that was some criminal fucking bullshit. i love high on fire and wish them all good things, i understand that they probably made good money off this, but it still pissed me off to no end. didn't even put the extra tracks on the goddam vinyl. bastards.

ksh, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 19:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I'll buy the occasional CD at a big-box retailer as well, but only if the difference between indie and big-box prices is waaaaaaaayy significant (e.g., last year, Rihanna Rated R, $9.99 big-box retailers, $15.99 to $18.99 indie shops). Indies don't seem to discount the huge major-label releases as often... I think this happened with The-Dream Love vs. Money as well.

Phil, which HoF release was this?? The latest?
